When do you favor revolvers and when do you favor autos?

Revolvers for hunting.

Both for CCW, but the DA sp101 gets the bulk of it.

My go to nightstand gun is an auto, just because I don't wanna shoot a 357 in my hall.

I carry semi-autos when out in public, but I like a good revolver when I'm hunting. I have a couple of 357's and I just picked up a S&W 44 Mag that I can't wait to get to the range.

I prefer revolvers for self-defense and hunting.

I enjoy shooting auto-loaders on the pistol range, particularly high speed shooting and reloading (but I love revolvers in this capacity also).

Whichever I pick up first when i go out. Am equally bad with both and as well protected with either.

I can tell you that when I recommended a firearm for both my Mother and my Mother-in-law, I strongly steered them to revolvers. My favorite for both women (one is 65 the other is 74) is a Ruger SP101 with a crimson trace laser grip, loaded with Speer gold dot 38+p. The gun is light enough for them to handle, but heavy enough that the 38s are gentle shooting. My only reservation is the trigger pull is a bit heavy.

The laser sight gave both women a lot of confidence at the range.

For EDC I carry a revolver. It's light, compact, and uber-reliable easy to carry spare ammo.

When I am going out at night , and/or into a location more likely to present a self defense situation I include an autoloader in my carry set.

"I favor revolver (5 shot J-Frame) for pocket carry"

+1

I favor revolver for Hunting.

semi auto:

All else

5rd .38+p ccw snub. for almost everything

Auto with 15rd 9mm with 2 mags for zombie or alien attacks....

I favor semi-autos over revolver, but find both fun.

I don't reload, so semi-auto 9mm sees the most range time.
I don't reload, so .45acp is about as cheap as .38 or .357 for me.

I dislike cleaning the 6 chambers and the cylinder face every range trip, in addition to the barrel.

I shoot semi-auto's better, unless i am only shooting the revolver in SA mode.

I like semi-autos for SD in town as there is more ammo capacity, they fit under my clothes better and I am slightly more accurate.

I like .357 or .44 revolvers for camping/backpacking as I am not likely to have 3 guys assaulting the home out there and the extra power will give me an edge over a mountain lion or black bear, compared to a 9mm or even a .45acp semi-auto.

I do like the looks of revolvers, but prefer the classic looks of all steel semi-autos [1911s, Browning Hi Powers, P38s, etc] with wooden grips.

Being a wheelgun kinda guy I favor wheelguns for everything except close quarters combat where volume of fire may come into play. If I was as fast at reloads as Jerry Miculek the it would different.

When firing 22RF, no preference. In my reloading days I prefered revolvers, no lost brass. If it's a collectible, I will take it, be it revolver or auto.

I feel extremely confident I will win a gunfight with one shot from my sp101.

Unless there are 2 assailants; then it may require 2.
