Wheelguns Are For "Oldtimers"??

Hello Fellow Wheelie Fanatics,

Although no gun writer says it outright, it seems that they often insinuate that wheelguns are carried mostly by "oldtimers" or "mature" folks!

Well I'm 32 and own an extensive collection of wheelguns and autos, but almost always strap on one of my S&W .41 Magnums when I go out.

So this brings me to my two questions for my fellow wheelgunners...

How old are you?

What is your favorite wheelgun?

Have a great weekend.

Hey there!

I'm 24 years old and just purchased my first wheelgun although I've had semi-autos since I was 21.

I bought a Taurus 85 Titainium Ultralite for carry and fell in love with it. My Glock now only goes out of the house on weekends straight to the range where as my 85 is now always on me, either on my ankle or tucked inside the pants.

Best regards from a recent wheelgun fan,

André

Age = older than the .357.
Owned over a dozen makes of autoloaders and who knows how many models.

For defence and fun prefer wheels. Blue steel Smith wheels. Ks are handy, Ns are right for stout stuff, Js are friendly and Is snuggle into the smallest places. Only L that likes me is 4" 586.

Owned stainless, don't and won't.

Call me an oldtimer, then...although I'm just 30. The vast majority of my handgun collection is round in the middle.

My favorite wheelgun is my Model 19 Combat Magnum, 4" round butt.

I do have a nice .41 Magnum Model 57, which has been extensively customized as a carry gun, so I applaud your CCW choice.

REFOLVERS? I doan’ need no steenkin’ refolvers!

But I like them. Most days I carry some kind of .45 auto. Today, though, I’m packing a late-40s vintage Military & Police .38 Special. I shot it in an IDPA match Saturday with 158 RNL handloads–An old-fashioned resolver with old-style ammo in a like holster. Lots of fun. When I cleaned it last night, I was taken with the classic aspects of the old thang, so I wore it to work today.

My favorite wheelgun? Man, that would be VERY hard to say.

S&W .45 Colt Mountain Gun is high on the list. Powerful, accurate, superb hunting sidearm.

An elderly Colt .357–Pre-Trooper model, 4". Killed a couple of deer with it. Accurate, sturdier than a K-frame S&W but lighter than an N-frame .357.

Model 34 .22/32 Kit Gun, 2" round butt. It CAN’T be so easy to shoot a snub so well--I nearly have to aim to miss with it! My companion on hundreds of bird hunts, bought new in 1970.

An Airweight Chiefs Special was my “Always Gun” for many years. Never any adventures with it, but a vast comfort a couple of times.

I’m not QUITE as ancient –‘scuse me–well-seasoned– as C. R. Sam, but we could have been in public schools together. :p Born 1943.

Best,
Johnny

I'm not that old (29 this month). I just recently started down the path of gun ownership about 2.5 years ago. My first purchase was a GP-100 4" (currently straped to my hip). My normal carry gun is a Tracker .41 magnum. 3/4 of all my handguns are revolvers (and I'm thinking of retiring my semiauto .22 for a revolver).

I'd have to say that my favorite wheelgun is my blue 6" model 57. It's accompanied me on all my trips to the range since I bought it! :D

I noticed that a couple of people here are carrying N frames. Can someone recomend a holster for a model 58? Thanks.

I am 31. I have only been shooting for just over a year. I love revolvers. Currently my favorite gun is my CZ 75 but as a catagory I like revolvers better than autos.

My first gun was a Taurus 82 in .38spl. Good gun but I sold it when I got my .357, I shouldn't have. I'll probably replace it with another 82 or with a S&W Model 10 (used, of course), the gun the 82 was designed after.

I currently own a 3" barrel S&W 65LS in .357 mag. I love this gun. Great looks, very accurate, 100% reliability. In fact, I like it so much that earlier today I almost bought a model 13 with a 4" barrel, its blued brother, to go with it (probably should have- it was a 13-2 with pinned barrel, recessed cylinder and firing pin on the hammer).

I just bought (finished the paperwork about 45 minutes ago) a Taurus 605, a 2" barrel, 5 shot snubbie in .357mag. I can't wait to get a chance to fire it. Unfortunately, I live in MD where we have a one gun per month limit (actually its not a calender month thing, it is one every 30 days) and since I just picked up my CZ two weeks ago I have to wait another 2 weeks to pick this up (we also have a 7 day waiting period but that can start during the month so I will be able to pick it up exactly 30 days after picking up the CZ).

Favorite revolver? I don't know. I like my S&W 65 better than the Taurus 82 I had, but much of that is that I like the .357 flexibility. I like other revolvers that I've shot but since I own the 65 I've shot it more than any others so I can't really give them a fair evalutation. I really like, and have my eye on, the Taurus 450 and the Tracker in .357 (preferably with a 4" barrel). I have wanted a SAA replica from Cimmaron for some time. Favorite, by default only, is the S&W 65 though I'm sure there are others out there I'd like just as much (if not more) with some experience.

Revolvers

The only handguns in my collection now are wheelguns, with the sole exception of paired Para-Ordnance P-12/45 Limiteds.

I love each and every one in my collection -- S&W, Colt, Ruger, Taurus, Rossi, Dan Wesson, Freedom Arms, etc.

For me what cinched it was the outrageous cost of hi-cap mags after the ban and the realization that I actually shot a hell of a lot better when I only had 5,6, or 7 in the wheel.

I actually look forward to going to the range and hearing the snickers of the black-pistol toters. They usually hush down and go back about their spray-n-pray after a couple of cylinders and a fast reload.

My favorites right now:

Colt Agent and Taurus 617CH , have 2-inch pipes on both of them.

Hi. My name is Rob, I'm 31 years old, and my favorite wheelgun is my stainless Ruger super single-six with a 5 1/2 barrel.

For defensive purposes it's the Ruger sp101 with the 3" barrel.

oldtimers

Its hard to accept the notion that I would be considered an old-timer. At 61.5 IU don't feel t6hat old. The one saving grace is having had the opportunity to gain experience. My choice of nighttime defense is Ithica 12 guage shotgun Model 37 loaded with 00 Buckshot. S&W Perf Center 7 shot 357 in the combo locked box! I feel very safe with that5 combination.

32 here and just got in from the range where I excercised my 2.5" Model 66. I really like this revolver but am looking for a 3" due to an interest in getting started in IDPA and concern that difficulty ejecting casings might be a significant handicap. Any thoughts on how going with a 3" barell Model 66 might help?

Just turned 52 and I like'em both. I'm slightly out of kilter because I really prefer my S&W 459 but I've taken to carrying a Charter 2000 44 special for the convenience. But that's this year; might be different next year. There's been several threads (some quite animated) about revolver vs pistol and I haven't given it the analytic or scientific rigor. But right now I feel mucho safe and adequate with the 44, if my personal THREATCON went up it would be back to 459.

OVER 50. I have owned a lot of automatics in my time. Now that I am older and wiser, my collection is almost exclusively revolvers.

How old are you?
Old enough to remember that Singer (the sewing machine maker) made SA .45 Autos.

What is your favorite wheelgun?
Korth

Have a great weekend.
I like the S&W 640 in three-five-seven, too.

Let's see....I have 20+ revolvers and ......20+ autoloaders. Love both types, but it's ok since I'm 20+ plus 20+ years old.

I`m 34. I like the S&W 640 in .357, for carry. I like knowing that if you pull the trigger, and it doesnt go "bang", you can pull it again, and it will!
