what's your favorite 22?

Man, if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, that one has it in spades. Really looks like a Smith & Wesson.

I like my K-22, but the nod goes to my 10-shot 4" 617. Equal to the K-22 in accuracy, but much more versatile. I can use it as an understudy to my .357mag, as a plinker, to shoot rimfire steel matches, and can be pressed into target duty. It's one of my most-shot guns (well, right up until I got a progressive press ).

I -love- seeing your targets. ;)

That one at 25 yards just makes me want to see if I can manage to come up with even twice the group size after trying five times with my six-inch model 17, or any of my other rimfire handguns.

Thanks, Sevens. In the interest of full disclosure, I'll admit 1" 25-yard groups certainly aren't anything I can do on demand or pull off consistently. But it's nice to know the hardware can deliver if and when the shooter can.

Gorgeous Model 18!
Love the grips. What are they, specifically?

Assuming you're referring to my post, those are Ahrends Smooth Combats in cocobolo. I think it's a stock style I ordered through Brownell's. And thanks! They look really nice in maple too, but that set is on a .357. Another thread perhaps... ;)

Hard to pick just one. I have had both of these for years and both are tack drivers.

My favorite .22 revolver is the favorite purely for sentimental reasons, as it was the first firearm I ever bought for myself. It's a stretch to list it, because it went walkabout during a move a number of years ago, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for it.

It was a German-made clone of a SAA, most likely taken from the Colt New frontier .22 six gun. Cost me all of $25 back in my Army days. I bought it for snake protection when hiking the desert in Arizona with my cousins. I keep wanting to say it was a J.P. Sauer & Sohn, but I have a nagging feeling that's not correct. I remember it had white plastic, imitation stag grips, and I once found a photo of what appeared to be the EXACT same gun somewhere on the Internet.

Colt Diamondback 4" .22LR.
Ooooh! Aaaahhh!

WANT!

Son of a gun! (If you'll pardon the expression.)

I remembered where I found the photo of "my" old .22 six gun. Rimfire Central (where else?).

Herbert Schmidt was the maker. Mine looked exactly like this one:

I currently own a Ruger Single Six, which is undoubtedly a much better firearm -- but I still miss my first.

Colt OMM, early 60's vintage.
DA trigger was smooth as silk and I miss it every day.
The K22 was no slouch either

I have always preferred an autoloading .22 pistol. While I have one of those well made S&W .22 kit guns it's the Colt Woodsman that's my gun!

A autoloading .22 pistol can be held much steadier than a revolver.

I steady my aim by reaching forward on the Woodsman's barrel just back from and under it's front sight.

Also the Target model Woodsman can be carried grip down, chamber empty, in my back pocket.
I can conceal it with my shirt tail out.

My only 22 revolver - S&W Model 18-3. Only shoots paper at the range, generally at 25 ft offhand. Sights are good, I have not adjusted them.

Pilot - that diamondback looks great.
