whats your fav revolver and why?

Favorite revolver - simple. My Ruger SP101 3" .38. Why? Because it is the only revolver I have. My nightstand gun. Fits my small hands like a glove. Shoots good.

Given that, after collecting many firearms, mostly semi-automatic (my last purchase was an AR-15), I am itching for something different.

A while back I whined about wanting to get something different for my collection and for fun, and I think it was Art Eatman who suggested to me to try a large frame revolver.

I think my next purchase will be a Super Redhawk 7.5" .44 magnum.

I'm with Taco. "73" vintage S&W M10, 4" pencil barrel, Uncle Mike's FG grips. Well used but tight. Smoothest trigger and best balance of any handgun I've ever touched in the last 50 years.

Boy that's a toughie. I had a lot of fun with a Ruger Bisley in .357. I'm shooting a lot more .45ACP now though. I really need to get back to single actions. Maybe a Vaquero with a .45ACP cylinder. The current constant companion is a 625 Mountain Gun in .45ACP/AR. I like those short fat rounds.

mine has to be my oldest 6" colt python. why?

1. it has saved my hide numerous times when i carried it as a duty gun
2. it has won me awards and cash when i shot it in competition
3. there is just somthing magical/artistic about the lockwork and accuracy of the piece

S&W 625, "Model of 1988", five-inch barrel, tuned by Lou Ciamillo of MGW...OR, my four-inch Model 686, action gently massaged by me...OR, my six-inch barreled PRE-Model 27--Thanks, Dewey!!!--OR, my six-inch Model 686, tuned by Ciamillo, OR...ahh, hell, I can't narrow it down...just make it a SMITH!!!....mikey357

My favorite is my Colt SAA, second generation. Nothing says "American" like a Baldwin Locomotive, a John Deere tractor, or a Colt SAA.:D

My sentimental favorite is my SWM27 5" I bought in the late '70's. This was my first personally owned handgun. For general shooting and competion it would be my SWM66 4". For the "Bump in the Night/Need to Stuff It in my Pants Quick" it would be my Ruger SP101 3".

If I had to give up all but one, I'd keep the M27, but it ain't fun to stuff it in the pants.

Best, RG

Tough question, but some great answers above - I have really enjoyed reading about other shooters favorites (and why). For me it is hard to choose (I have Colt, Ruger, S&W and SA's and DA's). I think my favorite to shoot is a NM Blackhawk in .45 Colt, with steel grip frame and ejector rod housing, checkered rosewood grips and opened throats - it shoots 255 LSWC's with unbelievable accuracy using Alliant 2400. For just looking at (and slickness) I have a Python my Dad gave me, it is one of the mid-1980's polished stainless steel versions, 4" barrel - it came with those ugly black rubber grips, but I replace those with Colt checkered walnut and it is BEAUTIFUL! Then I have ........ NG Bruce

I like the GP-100.

However, I'm equally fond of S&W Combat Masterpieces in .38 Special -- the models 15 and 67. I'm the only person I know that's passionate about these .38 Smiths.

It helps if you like the .38 Special cartridge, and I do.

If you find an older Model 67 in good shape, buy the thing and fit it with
Pachmayr stocks; the exposed backstrap model is especially nice.

The model 67 is the best .38 Special ever produced (IMHO). The model 15 is equally good, if you prefer blued steel.

My current favorite is a Ruger vaquero bird's head sheriff's model .45 colt.
That gun has been out for some work for the last three months.
It's still my favorite.
I have about 9 close seconds.

my favorites are many and varied. close to ideal would be a S&W trailboss, but i would still like particular features i can only get from other revolvers.

It's not likely that I'll ever sell my S&W Model 66-1, 2.5"... so I guess it qualifies as my favorite. It fits my hand perfectly and feels like a natural extension of my arm. It has the best trigger, both SA and DA, of any of my revolvers. I can shoot it quickly and accurately at defensive distances, it's easily concealed, and will accept a wide range of loads. It also goes bang 100% of the time. If we ever get CCW here in Ohio, I will carry it.
