What's Your CCW Weight?

I have been weighing my CCW pistols. I primarily carry three for CCW, the others are best for open carry.

My three CCW's are:

Smith 36 .38 spl. (loaded with 158g +P)
Glock 36 .45 ACP (loaded with 185g Critical Defense)
Colt Det. Special .38 spl. (loaded with 158g +P)

Actual loaded weights not counting holster:
Smith 36= 25.5 oz. (5 rounds)
Glock 36= 26.5 oz. (7 rounds)
Colt Det. = 27.0 oz. (6 rounds)

I find 26-27 oz is about my personal limit weight for carry weight....so these three pistols fit very well. Example; I have a Ruger Speed Six .357 that weights in at 37 oz. It conceals OK, but is just too heavy for daily carry.

Have you actually weighed your CCW?

What is the weight of your typical CCW?

Never weighed them loaded...

Weights are from the manufacturer, and are empty weight.

Winter time--S&W 4" N-frame in .45LC--about 43 oz.
Rest of the year--Kimber Pro Eclipse II--38 oz.

Up until last year it was a Kahr P45, about 18.5 oz.
Couple years before that it was a Kahr PM9 at 14.5 oz.

As you can see, I've been working my way up the scale, and it's taken a while. I carry every day, and every place where legal to do so.

I still own the PM9 and the P45, as well as an alloy 3" 1911 and an LCP. In the last year I have carried the LCP two days or so, the PM9 about the same, the P45 once or twice, and the 3" 1911 maybe once.

Edited to add:
One of these days I'll come up with the money for a Scandium S&W Commander sized 1911--28 oz. Looks like the perfect compromise.

Me too (ballpark)... LCP .380 w/10-rd. ProMag is my highest-percentage-of-the-time carry, and that's only 14 oz. loaded. I have 4 other occasional-carry guns that range between 22 and 28 oz. loaded. (Low) weight is a VERY important consideration for me.

I never weighed mine and never really thought about it. It is what it is. Even carrying two guns and a couple of reloads, whats it matter. You just find a way and deal with it.

What difference does it make?... really...

nice total lack of contribution to the discussion, just wanted to weigh in with your opinion? why bother even posting?

I like how small and light my Smith & Wesson Airweight Bodyguard is in it's various holsters but I've never weighed any of them

I had a Sig P230 blued that I loved to carry, it was about 17oz. Later bought a P232 SS and it was more like 23oz and I didn't like to carry it. Don't know what the loaded weight of either one was. I went to a 442 and never looked back.

Just unloaded weapon weights, sans holsters, right?

I prefer 14-15 oz (J-frame).

I can easily "make do" with 25-29oz, although it reminds me of my plainclothes assignment before I retired. I'd rather carry at the lower end of that weight range than the higher end, given my druthers.

When I carry something in the 39+oz range I feel like I should be wearing a uniform with a duty gun belt again.

The unloaded pistol plus magazine weight is a manufacturer spec, I have not weighed them myself. The loaded figure assumes that a loaded round of 9mm (case, bullet, primer, powder) weighs about 185 grains (about 0.43 oz).

My primary CCW these days is a Kahr CW9:

17.7 oz unloaded with magazine in place.
21.1 oz loaded.

17.4 ounces, loaded. That's the weight of the R9, one mag, 7 rounds of 9mm and the carbon fiber grips. I don't know what the leather pocket holster weighs, but it's not much.

Today, S&W 13 3", 31oz empty, plus 6 rounds in gun = about 34oz.

Plus two speed strips in belt pouches = about 6 oz.

So, total around 40oz. With a good belt and holster, not really all that noticeable.

(I notice the 442 in my pocket more, when I sit down for instance - it's not about the weight, it's just the position.)

How much weight

According to the manufacture, approximately 31 ounces loaded plus another 6 ounces for additional magazine. Kimber Ultra Crimson Carry II. And of course there is the holster.

My CCW weight is about a pound or two more than my regular weight.:)
My regular weight is about 50lbs more than my ideal weight.:(
