CindyH - you are so right. Even now after I've seen that movie 7 or 8 times, I still get choked up at the courtroom scene when Atticus is leaving and the gentleman in the balcony says, "stand up Scout, your father is passing by." He says that even after all that took place in the trial. I've read the book twice.

" Braveheart" and "Cole Justice" ( NOT a misspelling). The latter is a little-known, low-budget thing , written, directed, and starring one Carl Bartholemew. I now own the only copy I have ever seen. I bought it from a local video place going out of business. If you ever see a copy, GRAB IT! if you decide you don't like it , I will buy it from you for a spare!

Bladerunner

Hands down, no contest.

Beautiful, thought-provoking, layers of meaning, eye candy, kick-butt soundtrack, if I could mount a flatscreen LCD on the wall in a frame with this flick playing on a looping tape...

Also, the only reason Rutger Hauer should be allowed to retain membership in the screen actor's guild. Not just his finest hour, but his ONLY hour.

The Wizard of Oz.
(I almost feel bad for Reno when the house falls on her sister) ;)
The movie is filled with so much sterotype and un-PC content, I can't imagine it being produced in today's warm fuzzy world. OR The movie can be taken for what it is. A good kids tale of good over evil.

Star Wars IV: A New Hope
Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars (you see where this is going, right?)VI: Return of the Jedi

"Rob Roy" and "Braveheart"
"Saving Private Ryan"
"Tombstone"
"Bladerunner"

I'll agree with Bladerunner as one of the finest movies ever made, particularly the Director's Cut.

I also enjoyed Big Trouble in Little China immensly. A lot of people I know didn't "get it" but I loved it. John Carpenter's finest hour.

Others I've watched over and over (in no particular order):

- LA Confidential (Russell Crowe is the Clint Eastwood of the 21st Century)
- The Hudsucker Proxy
- The Shawshank Redemption
- The Big Lebowski (hell, any movie by the Cohen Brothers).
- The Matrix
- The Fifth Element
- The Terminator
- Predator
- Tombstone
- Casablanca

Ah, hell, I'm sitting on a pile of 80 laserdiscs and 100+ DVDs and I'll watch most of them over and over again. There are many favorites that would take too long to list.

When I was younger, I was probably arrogant enough to pick just "one" movie as a favourite. Now, it has to be a choice of several.

(In no particular order)

Zulu ("Men of Harlech" still raises the hairs on my neck)
Camelot (Richard Harris version)
The Longest Day
The Big Red 1
Red Dawn
Terminator
Casablanca
The African Queen
The Santa Clause ("In your dreams, sleigh-boy")
In Which We Serve
The Sand Pebbles
Goodbye, Mr Chips (Peter O'Toole version)
Rio Bravo
The Odd Angry Shot
Mad Max (aka "The Road Warrior")
The Rats of Tobruk
Sink the Bismarck
Battle of the River Plate
Quigley Down Under
Wake in Fright (called, I think, "Outback" overseas)
The "Road" films
Holiday Inn
Miracle on 34th Street (Avenue??)
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
Smokey and the Bandit
Deliverance
The Jazz Singer (Neil Diamond -- beautiful music)
Jonathon Livingston Seagull (ditto above)
Die Hard 1 and 2
Robin and Marian
Jumping Jacks (Martin and Lewis)
The Party (Peter Sellers)
Grease

How about films you hated? (For various reasons)

Dr Zhivago
The Sound of Mucous ... errr, Music
The Way We Were
Larry the Arab ... errr, Lawrence of Arabia
Braveheart (sorry, I still have nightmares (literally) about the ending of that film)
The Black Robe
Mary Poppins
Grease 2
A Crock of Sh*t Now ... errr, Apocalypse Now
The Crucible

That'll do for now -- but there are many more in both categories!! ;)

B

I'll just list the ones not already mentioned:

The Outlaw Josey Wales
The Godfather I and II
Jeramiah Johnson (spelling?)
Young Frankenstein
Silver Bullet
Blazing Saddles
The Wild Bunch
Hamburger Hill (I was exhausted at the end of the movie just watching them attack up that damn hill time after time)

There are others but I just can't remember the titles.
