What's wrong with this?

Most of us arent interesting enough to warrant a second look.

This is a cop out I see often. The question isn't whether you are interesting OR whether anyone *IS* keeping tabs on you. The question is what the ability to keep tabs on you offers if you should become interesting, perhaps for reasons you don't even expect...or reasons that have nothing to do with you. The problem is the ability to keep tabs on and thus control essentially everyone.

I almost never carry ID and everything I do, even business, is cash only. Mainly because I have discovered I have lots more money and lots more toys that way, as opposed to giving big interest pymts to the banks, but the anonymity of it is nice, too.

Doesnt make much of a difference...the ability is already there.

But hey isnt you argument the same the anti gunners use:D

PS...the ability to know everything about someone equates to the ability of the knowee to know how the knower did it...great fodder for Courts to play with.

PPS...you failed to address the aspect of practicalitys....

or reasons that have nothing to do with you.

I guess thats the difference between those who have played with the big bad government and their jackbooted fascist minions and those who havent...those of us who have know that no one gets looked at without a reason....that reason may not be enough for anyhting other than a look, but there is still a reason.

PPPS...Our government cant even manage to secure its own borders or fix potholes. I, being me, Mr. Mundane, do not fear it. That becasue when some folks look at government, they see a Black Tuniced SS Obergruppenfuhrer ready to crush the free innocent patriots under his hobnailed boot. Me I see a shambling, cross eyed blubbering idiot the size of Rosie O'Donnel with 1/25th her brains and a propensity for breaking fine china with every incompetant movement. One merely needs to slap the blubbering idiot once in a while.

Thats what Courts are for. Picture 400,000 blithering greedy lawyers slapping away at a giant Rosie ODonnell every time she breaks something expensive.

I agree 100% about State laws being passed the would enable non-federal law enforcement to detain illegal aliens. Border Sheriffs are screaming for it right now.

As for the 'papers' issue. REALISTIC everyday practice is to carry some ID with you when out and about for a variety of reasons. You are actually required to have your DL on your person if you are operating a motor vehicle.
And if stopped an Officer is justified in asking for ID from passengers should things seem out of the norm. If the driver or someone else in the car does not have ID it is normal for the LEO the ask for information that is used to confirm their identity (name, DOB, SSN) etc.

This is NORMAL...not 'Police State'. Nobody is checking ID the cross state lines or cross bridges etc. A cop just wants to confirm that the driver is in fact licensed, has no wants or warrants, and is who they say they are.

The inability of non-federal law enforcement to do anything about watching a group of illegal aliens cross the border right in front of them except to call border patrol is what needs to change. Local LE has no jurisdiction to enforce federal immigration law. If they simply had the authority to detain them for Border patrol their simple presence would become a deterrent.

Partnering Federal and local LE seems like a no briner here. Just like joint operations with the different branches of service has proven to be a force multiplier this approach is simple and effective. But it takes STATE legislation to accomplish this. A STATE law has to be passed to grant local LE this ability.

The same is true with non-eligibility for services. This has to happen via STATE legislation. No education, health, or welfare services, and documentation required for voting. This has been done in AZ via Prop 200. No politicians would or could get it made law. Our Governor loves to veto immigration reform legislation. Only voter initiatives can force laws to be enacted when politicians fail to act.

Voter initiatives CAN NOT be vetoed or stricken. They can ONLY be stopped by being found unconstitutional. If we want this fixed then it's time to get petition signatures and get these thing on a ballot.
