What's wrong with this?

Is this not a viable plan:
a) Build the fence.
b) Enforce current laws surrounding employment.
c) Empower LEOs at the city/state levels to detain anyone caught without proper identification during the course of their daily duties.
d) Cease all social handouts to NON-citizens.
A bit more streamlined than the 800 or so pages the Senate was considerin.

But first and foremost.......SECURE THE BORDER! BUILD THE FENCE!

Great idea. The bleeding heart liberals and do gooders won't like the idea (and that makes it even a better idea). We don't need more laws, just enforce what we've got.

If we can be instrumental in getting that bill killed, I'm sure we could get that fence built!
The Senate has heard from "the People" in no uncertain terms.
We don't need some monstrosity of a bill to begin to rectify years of border neglect.
Keep the momentum going!
Call the guys that fought to oppose this bill and see ask them what would be the most effective approach to bring forth pressure to get the fence built.
There is no reason in hell this has to wait untill the next administration takes office.
Call these guys!!!

If the leader of the GOP wanted to, there would be action taken. Those of you who voted for him twice, give him a ring.

Without his support, no amount of legislation (even veto overriding) would make a difference.

Obviously, you don't live near the border. There are a lot of folks that are day labor that come across daily. Some of these folks do not have so much as a bicycle to get across the border and some swim the sewer enriched Rio Grande daily. There are folks that are employed in the border towns as sales folks, restocking inventory, and other common jobs that have worked here for years but prefer to remain Mexican National. There are also families that live on both sides. The local folks, including the local Govts, do not want the fence. You can expect them to fight a fence of any kind. I think instead of a fence, the USA should buy the land along the river for at least the first 1/4 mile and knock all of the brush down and make it into a long parking lot. It would make it a lot easier for the BP to see folks coming across illegal and arrests would be far easier. Electronic survellance would also be possible. The fence- it ain't gonna happen.

Sounds like a case of wanting cake and eating it too.

In post 9/11 America, our interests outweigh theirs. Instead of looking to the U.S. to employ and otherwise save them from the corruption of their own country, maybe they should start a revolution and reclaim Mexico for their people. Mexico has had as much time as the U.S. to get their act together. Why do people think that we are supposed to be their sugar daddy? There is no reason to leave our southern border open to terrorist infiltrators. It isn't our place to rectify the problems that Mexicans have created for themselves, or any other country for that matter. We have plenty of internal problems of our own, let them solve theirs just as we must solve our own. What happened to a country being sovereign and responsible to and for it's own people?

Viable and easily accomplished. I like.

Sounds a lot more expensive than a fence...

My problem is with letter "C".

Giving our government the right to detain a person without suspecting them of a crime gives me the chills. There is no reason I should have to show anyone my ID until I'm stopped for doing something wrong. Forgetting your ID when you go for a walk shouldn't be a crime.

Otherwise, I like it... A lot. :D

A fence is not going to do a thing to stop the encroachments. People will go over it, go under it or through it (wire cutters, anyone?). Nor is it even necessary.

Like drugs, the only real way to stop the flow is to stop the need. It is already a minor crime for anyone to employ an unlawful alien. One of two things must happen. Prosecute companies/individuals who hire these people under the current law, or change the law to a higher crime and prosecute the employers: i.e. mandatory jail time for willful employment, regardless of what company title you may hold. Go straight to the top!

When employers know that they will get a hefty fine and jail time, they will stop their hiring practices. If there are no jobs, the influx will cease.

Once the borders are secured, we can worry about those who are already here... Assuming they are still here after their jobs have been taken.

Once the borders are secured, then we can negotiate a new immigration policy that has sensible laws regarding seasonal laborers.

We should probably revisit the 14th amendment and strike the clause that has produced "anchor babies." The Supreme Court should have no wiggle room here. But, as we all know, amending the Constitution is hard, and we may not get that.

Did you ever see a Man a Wife and 2 kids climb a 10' fence
In fact have have you ever saw anyone climb a 10'ft fence with
Razor wire at the top ?????

, It just might help,

The fence does work and assist's the BP quite well, but it is not the only answer. I know this for a fact because we have one in "our backyard". I live in a border city that is over 60% Hispanic and it seems the majority of the people here are in favor of it. The majority of my students actually would like to see a moat with alligators around it. Then they might have a chance to get a decent job themselves.

But then again let’s listen to the people who spin this around and give us all the bennies and fabricated good fortune that come with the invasion.

The huge problem with the idea in the original post is this:

SO WHAT if it's the obvious and most viable solution. THERE'S NO POLITICAL CAPITAL IN IT.. DUH

How in the hell can the Dems get their GIGANTIC new constituency from THAT plan. PFFT.

We need to convolute it until the under educated and non-English speakers can be told it does ALL the things they want without being able to comprehend it's content enough to confirm it. PLUS it's damn hard to enforce before 15 or 20 Supreme Court cases start establishing some presidences to go by.

NAH...Dems are the party for the people. They wouldn't be like that.....would they.

I keep telling the parable about the rescued snake that was nursed back to health. Upon full recovery it immediately and fatally bit it's rescuer. When asked by it's rescuer why it bit them after all it had done for the snake the snake simply replied 'Hey....what did you expect....you knew I was a snake when you picked me up.

Welcome back to health DNC.

OH....and for the replies that CAN'T believe you got bit....Please select from the "DNC Standard Answer Sheet"

Right, a fence is goint to work. The Germans had a freaking huge wall with machine gun nests and a steady flow of people still moved from one side to the other.

But you gotta love cowboys, there's always a simple cheap and effective solution to any of life's complex problems. The only reason we don't implement said cheap effective solution is that those with different opinions on the matter are evil.

Too bad it's almost always wrong.

What if 'Build the fence' was 'Secure the border' JustMe?

And you completely ignored b, c, and d. Those too 'cheap and simple' also?

What ON TOPIC do you think is good or bad about this plan?

Or are you stickin with the "Your too stupid to see the REAL issue" option from the DNC SAS.
What is your progressive solution to this problem .. And yes...it's a PROBLEM. NOBODY refutes that one.

I see where it''s confusing drawing a line between the two.

I remember a story where 2 brothers were given a pair of horses in thier youth. They decided to cut the tail off of one so they would be able to tell them apart.
After awhile one said to the other you know we really didn't have to do that, the white horse is shorter than the black horse.

I like the 1/4 mile "kill zone" idea. Then instead of a fence put up shooting benches. Free admission and pay,,,,say,,,, .28cents a head for each turned in at the end of your "range visit".

Hey it worked in East Berlin for some odd 50 years.

So you want us to emulate a oppressive communist regime?

I'll take "B" and "D."

Without jobs or freebies, the illegals will go home. "A" would just get in the way of the exodus of illegals and "C" would overwork LEOs to no purpose.

However, this will NOT happen. Between business greed for cheap labor and the prospect of creating a new ethnic voting fiefdom, the majority of Congress has already been bought and paid for.
