What's the stupidest gun deal you never made?

I foolishly sold the first handgun I ever bought, a mid 90's blued Colt Detective Special, to a LGS at a loss a few months after I bought it after getting nervous about having a gun and never firing it. Turned out to be the last run of Detective Specials Colt ever produced. I recently saw the identical gun I had online new in box and selling for 3 times what I paid for mine. I was young and foolish then, I'm different now.

Moral of these stories? Do not ever sell any guns you acquire unless other then to flip for profit, and learn to recognize that once or twice in a lifetime deal when you see it, and act accordingly.

buddy wanted to sell me his 44mag snubby that was an ultra light version. he was really insistent on different occaisions hoping to sell this (already bought used) firearm. He even mentioned it might have some issues due to its weight but is a good firearm. I passed. The firearm would'nt have been a good buy in my opinion.

I regretted it 5 minutes after the trade.

I bought a pristine Remington model 1100 20 gauge for a very good price many moons ago. I used that gun for several years and loved it. I was in a bind for cash and sold the thing for about what I originally paid for it. The few bucks from it made little difference in my financial situation, and I would love to have one like it. It would be a fine shotgun for one of my grandkids...
 
Free Beretta 92FS w/ night sights... Friend turned it into the NYPD before I talked to him :(. Too much $$$ to keep an active license in that hell hole...
 
Put half down on a Browning 1885 High Wall in 45-70 with the rest as layaway.

The next week I ended up in a torso and right arm cast (work accident) and spent basically 3 months stuck in my apartment. One of my helpers must have thrown out the layaway ticket while cleaning because I never found it again.

The owner of the gun store wouldn’t even look at his records because 90 days had passed without payment or communication from me and he’d sold the gun to someone else.

Admittedly I had other things on my mind but man do I regret not sending someone down there to make some payments.
 
Two on the same day. When the new Cabela's opened up they had both a 91/30 sniper for $600 (about right for the price, but the only one I'd ever seen in person) and a old mauser broomhandle with the wood stock, leather harness for that and all the accoutrements to match for $900 (a huge steal!). Went back a week later to put money down on one or the other and both were gone.
 
- Sold a beat up yet very accurate 1894 Win. 16" Trapper for a Bryco 9mm and $40.

- Thought I'd try a Bersa T22 in liue of another Ruger. Should of just got another Ruger.
 
When I was a total rookie shooter (12-14 months ago), my local pawn shop had, at various points in time:
A K98 Mauser for $225
Some sort of used Colt 1911 for $375
Colt 1917 for $600
Yugo SKS for $200
Norinco SKS for $175
A Gatling in 22lr for 2 or 3 grand (Not sure if that's a fair price, but man that thing looked downright vicious)
Zastava AK for $500
Used Remington 700 in .308 with a Leupold 3-9 for $500

Too bad anything larger than a .22lr intimidated me back then :o

Since then, though, I've spent more money there than I'd like to admit. And don't ask where it is! That's my own private honeypot ;)
 
regrets? back in 91, i sold an original colt 1911 (1917 prod date + full history of it from issue date) for $250. bought it a few yrs earlier for $200, so did make a profit.:confused:
before the clinton ban, was at a gun show & bought 2 russian sks's & a swedish m-96 mauser (all in mint condition) for $89 each. i should have bought more... still have the mauser & the better of the two sks's. sold the other to fund my ar-15 a few yrs ago. sold it for 5 times what i paid, so yeah, should have bought many more at the time.
 
Passed over a decent Norinco M14 for $900 (probably $750 would have had it) based on second hand info that they were trouble and didn't do my homework. Put the money on a brand new Springfield M1A for almost double.... :o
 
A Sauer Luftwaffe drilling in the case, for $250.Old woman lived across from my aunt and uncle,her husband had passed and she was selling everything to buy a condo.Her farmhouse was falling down around her ears,and she said she was too old to take care of it alone.Unfortunately after some soul searching i told her what it was, and it's worth.And that i had never seen one in the case,original manuals,original ammo,and the issue papers in german.My uncle claimed he was proud of me,but i said it didn't get me the drilling.He asked what i would have done with it anyway.I told him I'd sit naked in my easy chair at night and just cradle it.
 
In 2009 I passed on a used Sig p225. The seller wanted $300 and it only came with one magazine. I've kicked myself a few times for walking away from it.

At a gun show a man had a all original nagant revolver converted to 22 for training the sweadish army but I had to pass it up
 
Street Sweeper in .45-70 for $350 NIB.

And just this past year a mint Mossberg 151M with period scope and gorgeous wood for 200 bucks.:mad: Told the wife I was just going to look.
 
A S&W Model 586, sold right off my hip in a restaurant for $250 while on break from hunting deer in 1990. I still miss that revolver, but six years later I bought a new 686 for $325. I still have the original receipt, and smile everytime I look at the prices for a 686 on gunbroker... so I guess this one worked out okay.

Sold a M70 Westerner in 1988 to finance Christmas gifts, and used the residual to buy a M94 in a pawn shop for $120. I still have the 94 and plan to keep it, but I finally this year bought another M70 (a new one from the FN plant.) I just plain got tired of not owning one! but, I was a dummy for getting rid of the Westerner in the first place.

And the 6904? I kept it for all of about 2 years before trading it off to get a Norinco MAK 90... which I sold off for $300 about two years after that.

In sum, I wish I had all of those guns that I let go over the years (there's been several others i didn't mention here)... not to mention, my judgment in selling has been pitiful. So.... I made myself a promise to stop trading, and just buy what I really want and plan to keep. That's served me well for the past decade, although the wife wasn't crazy about the need for another safe :)
 
My very first gun years ago was a Walther PPK/S, i bought it used from a reputable gun shop. That thing was a piece of junk, it constantly jammed. Thinking that i had bought a used lemon, i sold it and bought a brand new one. THAT was my stupidest gun deal. It also was a jamomatic. It wasnt me, have owned countless handguns since, and i have never had any issues with any of them.
