What's the most rugged handgun in the world?

Opinions....oh my

I have had USP .45, Still have Glock 26, and a colt 80 series. I also just bought a sig 226, but have only shot it 65 rounds. I think any of these will fill the bill. I would trust any of these with my life.

What's the most rugged handgun in the world?
I'm sure this has been covered before, but I can't seem to find a thread that answers this question...
I know this is the semi-auto forum, but feel free to talk about DA/SA revolvers, etc.

Thanks,

Jerry

It's actually the 'general handgun' forum.

This is obviously subjective, but for me I have put 10K through only one of my handguns (trap shooting has seen tens of thousands with my shotguns) and that's my Ruger P95.

However, my Taurus 92 will be there by this time next year (If we all don't go broke first)

Im surprised no one mentioned the HK45.

M9's are great and all(DA aside) but again when you think rugged, you don't think "well maintained" in that part(which seems to be what every M9 voter says needs to be). If I want a gun that can take a beating and still make whatever I'm pointing at go dead when I need it to after being dropped in the dirt, mud, salt water, etc M9 is not what I have in mind.

Hard one to answer but for me I will have to say the S&W Model 64 Revolver. The one I have has taken a lot of punches but never failed to perform well.

Kind of depends on how you are defining "rugged"?

A mil-spec 1911 has to be at or near the top. I differentiate between the "mil-spec" or "duty" models in that there are plenty of 1911's made today with tighter tolerances and more fragile parts (sights among them) that just won't take the abuse or harsh conditions a service weapon would.

And the Glock with a majority of it's parts polymer or tennifer coated should qualify as "rugged" too.

I am pretty sure the "stainless steel" K & L framed S&W's and Rugers could take most any beating you could dish out and shoot just fine. Revolvers won the west and did plenty of service in several wars so you can't count them out.

I would have to go with a revolver. Either a S&W 686 or Ruger GP100 would work. These are rugged guns that are completely reliable in all conditions. No feeding, extracting, safety, or mag issues; just pull the trigger and they fire.

Thank you Jeff45. I whole-heartedly agree that revolvers are much less failure prone than auto-loaders. Less things going on during the firing cycle, hence more reliable. As far as "rugged," I pose this: If you were to have fate deal some tremendous force upon your firearm (long drop, run over by truck, etc) and then be forced to use it, what would you want? Me, a Ruger revolver. They're tanks. Just my two slugs o' copper.

This one visited some hostile climates a few years ago and it's abilities have diminished about 0.00% after 93 years. I'd bet the farm it'll be going long after I'm dead.

Glock 19 or 17
CZ 75B
Sig P226
1911 properly built
BHP
