like MAGTECH .40 S&W "1ST DEFENSE" SOLID COPPER-HP
there 130 gains and are solid copper with controled expantion for maximum flesh damage on inpact
or
E-SHOCK 40 S&W "FANG FACE" Anti-Terrorist Fragmenting-HP
this is one ****** off looking bullet, the hollow point lookes like something from the umbrella corp. and ontop of that is frangable wich means when it hits the human body it litterly explodes causing massive soft tissue damage.
or
my favorite bullet from taurus the taurus copper bullets.
99.9% solid copper with a HUGE BALLS TO THE WALL DEEP,hollow point.
i cary these in my para lda daily and have had to use them twice on coyote at my farm with terrifing results, it acually gutted the poor thing, didnt meen for that to happen. i call these things flying trash cans there insaine!!!!!

And nobody smells anything funny when someone comes on looking for the meanest bullet around? I feel like I'm listening to a 12 year old who watches too many Hollywood movies and plays too many video games wondering which bullet creates the biggest blood bath.

I'm surprised anybody has even answered.

The best hollowpoint?

The one that feeds reliably in your auto, chambers smoothly in your revolver, is controlable, more accurate than other brands, and costs the least for all of these things.

This may, and quite likely will be different for each gun and caliber.

I'm not going to recommend any particular brand or caliber, as whatever I choose might not be the best in your gun(s). You will have to find that out for yourself.

Brand A might have the most impressive pics of expanded bullets, but if it jams in your gun, I wouldn't count on it for my personal defense. Brand B might have nearly as good a pic, and testimonials from forensic pathologists, but if it shoots 8" groups at 30 feet from your gun, it's not a really good choice either!

If you really want to know which one is "best" start testing in your gun. Compare the results from different brands, and then, you have something valid to compare. Comparing ads, marketing hype, and performance from some one else's gun really isn't good for anything except entertainment.

I could, for example, show you a wonderfully expanded .45 cal bullet (which I fired from a 7.5" .45 Win Mag), but if you shoot that same bullet from a 3" barrel Kahr .45ACP, I doubt you will get identical results. A nice pic of an expanded bullet, by itself, is just a nice pic of an expanded bullet.

Your mileage may vary. read prospectus carefully before investing. Past performance is no guarantee of future results. Etc, etc..

There's a difference between the Ranger SXT and Ranger T. The SXT has that black coating on it like the old Black Talons. Both boxes look the same, except for the item number which will go something like R40T or R40SXT.

I have a Glock 23 .40 and 165gr Gold Sabres, 180gr Ranger T, 155 Hydra-Shock, and for target practice I have PMC Bronze 165gr FMJ and American Eagle 165gr FMJ.

I want to get Ranger Core Bonded, PMC Starfire, Speer Gold Dot, and I REALLY wanna get Federal HST in both 165gr and 180.

Federal HST, only sold by Federal to Law Enforcement:

I hate to contribute to the zombification of old threads, but since this one is up and running again, I have to throw in...

I have used up a fair amount of Ranger SXTs (9mm) and have never seen a black one. I'm pretty sure they got rid of that coating when they dumped the "Black Talon" moniker. As far as I can tell, the differences between the Ranger "T" Series and the SXTs are in their construction.

The Ranger T is based on the SXT. The older SXTs had the black coating and brass shells, the newer SXTs have no coating and the shells are nickel plated. Though I haven't seen the new SXTs anywhere.

There you go. I was thinking of the Ranger SXT, which was in the same configuration as the Ranger "T" Series (no coating, nickel case).

Rugged.
Just who or what were those rounds dug out of? Do you think that
Federal Hydrashocks would look the same way, after launch?
How does that type of round stand up in court? To me it says that you truly
were trying to stop this perp, without putting fifty or so rounds into him. It's
like they say in sniper school, one shot one kill.

Man I saw a post by myself looking at the thread that I did not remember making! I thought someone stole my ID then I noticed it was a two year old thread. The original poster may be dead by now! So much for dredging up old threads.

the only animals I've shot with jacketed pistol rounds have been shot with Rem GS - I use them because they group tightest in my guns. performance was dramatic. no slugs were recovered but the exit holes were large.
DRT's.

Federal HST's are very hard to beat. Many law enforcement agencies go with them. The ammo has become increasingly difficult and expensive for civilians to obtain, however.

Here is the 9mm 124 gr bullet's performance:

Here is the 9mm 147 gr bullet's performance:

Here are some recovered .45 HST bullets:

Here are some recovered .45 Golden Sabre bullets for comparison:

The ones I like, in no particular order:

.38+P Remington 158gr LSWCHP, Buffalo Bore 158gr SWCHP, Speer Gold Dot 135gr, Winchester SXT

9mm Federal HST, Remington Rolden Sabers, Speer Gold Dot in both 124gr and 147gr

45ACP Buffalo Bore 230gr JHP, Remington Golden Sabers

Simple solution, see what local LE agencies around you are carrying. It will be a decent round. And, its defensible in any court case.
It ain't hard science. I can set up a test to make the Speer Gold Dot the worst ammo you could possibly carry, or slightly more effective than the hand of God slapping down your adversary, and, I can do that for just about any ammo on the market.

Look how many agencies issue the Gold Dot...The Ranger..The Remington...9mm, .40, .357 SIG, .45 Etc. After all the testing and pondering, THEY can't all decide what is the "best". If there were one single truly best round, every law enforcement agency in the US would be carrying it.

I love the SXT, but depending where you live (and the ammo drought), good luck getting your hands on them. I wanted a high quality round that I could also afford and find. After much research, I narrowed my SD ammo to the following:

Golden Sabre
Speer Gold Dot
Corbon DPX

I ended up going with the Speer Gold Dot. There was a thread on here earlier showing various 9mm rounds expanded with pictures. Pretty interesting looking at each rounds expanded form. Anyways, that's my .02.
