whats the best deal youve ever got?

Remington 700sps varmint

I got a Remington 700sps varmint which was only shot 25 times and had a McMillan stock that he glass bedded when the original owner first bought it and came with weaver scope base and a very nice $100 bipod and came with 100 rounds for it custom loaded for that gun and had the barrel threaded and I bought it for $575

My wife met a woman selling off her deceased husbands collection and accessories.
Norinco SKS with original and Monte Carlo stocks.
Kimber 96, the sported 96 Mauser, scoped. With RCBS dies and Redding NS die.
Ruger 10-22 Target with Volquartsen barrel and original barrel, scoped
new spam can of LC M2 ball ammo,
5 boxes of Winchester white box 9mm.
RCBS press, 10-10 scale, powder throwers, case blocks
various weight bullets for .223, maybe 600, various weights of 6.5 ,maybe 400
$1000 for that and more.
She said she had one rifle on the floor but didn't think it was worth much. A CMP 03A3 with dust bunnies in the muzzle. I just could not bring myself to scam her on it. I told her she needed to save it for her grandson who was just getting into shooting with his grandfather.

This:

It's a vintage I frame Model 34 (misidentified as a 17) in 22LR. I almost did myself an injury pulling out my wallet on that one. The LGS owner, who knew me well, was suspicious when I didn't even try to haggle, but I just couldn't.

A Voere 22 semiauto. This was a "Ted Williams" model, but apart from a tiny stamp on the barrel was straight Voere. Worth $350-400 it was in the rack for $99 marked as a "Sears 22".

I got a few others, but I was working at a gunshop at the time, and one of the benefits is that you do come across good deals now and then. In fact you could easily spend your entire paycheck on gun deals if you're not careful.

I got a 1956 Ithaca 37 20 ga with corncob forend for $110. It was filthy and lightly rusted, which explains the price, but it cleaned up nicely.

The best was when I got a good condition 10/22 for free. Somebody came with an estate's collection to put on consignment. We had a $200 minimum price on consignment guns, and the 10/22 didn't quite make the cut. So they just said "keep it". So I did.

Deal #1: My SIG Sauer 226 - older W. German, 9mm, for $465. Not a great deal? In my experience, anything at twice the price doesn't come close

Deal #2: In my Navy days, shooting the M14, and stacking brass with an M60 and M2

SEVEN pounds sterling? SEVEN???
Yessir!
It was "The best deal" thread after all.:D
It was actually "my" Match rifle issued for competition shooting. I ordered a new one from stores & to my utter surprise I received a brand spanking new rifle in the mummy wrap.

When I "Got done there" it was offered to me as the RAF had switched to the 7.62mm Ess Ell Arr by then.

They even offered to hold it while my FAC was processed, stipulate they had completed my training in firearms & supply 2 of my 4 witnesses for the application.

Ahhhh! THOSE were the days.

I forgot about another from this year.

Springfield XDS 3.3 9mm fired maybe 200 to 300 rounds w/ all original equipment, 450 FMJ brass case 115gr factory ammo, and 50 hollow points for $350

Desperate friends, bittersweet deals.

If it's not departing too far from the subject "what's the best deal you've ever got":

Got a smoking deal on a 1950's-vintage South Bend 9x36 lathe with quick-change gears, tools and two chucks (3 and 4 jaw).

And, yes, it is firearms-related :D.

But just to keep it absolutely honest: Bought a pawn-shop pistol represented to me as an "off-brand" 1911 .45 ACP which turned out to be a 1911 Custom-built 10mm.

I think I posted about this in a similar thread a few years ago....this took place in 2008.

Friend of a friend of a friends brother passes away. All his gun and reloading stuff was stored in an extra bedroom, for a little under $1000 I get everything but have to load it and haul it away (this was also where the litter boxes for all the cats in the house were kept....don't ask for details on that). We filled up a small Ranger pickup, the mud guards were scraping the ground as we left. The guns were:

Colt .45 Commander
AMT .45 Hardballer (that actually worked)
Ruger .22 Mark I (with a long 5 inch barrel)
Ruger Stainless Security Six 357
Ruger Stainless Speed Six 357

There were some other rifles and shotguns but he had sold those already.

We dumped all the reloading and other gear in my garage and it took me about six weeks to go through it. There were about 17,000 Albert swagged bullets (mostly in .45 and .38), a dozen Lee molds (some were custom ones, a Keith profile in .38 dropping at 180g), a Lee bottom pour lead pot, three presses (a Rockchucker and two Lee Turrets), a lubrisizer, a half a dozen sets of dies, extra raw lead, extra bullets of all different kinds (thousands and thousands, some he had bought some he had cast), six 5 gallon buckets of brass (mostly .38 and .45, some brand new starline stuff still in the package), 8 lbs of Bullseye, about 10,000 primers, thousand and thousands and thousand of handloads in .45 and .38, all different kinds of ammo from .22 to 5.56, pistol rugs, gun cases....even a 5lb can of Mica....it just went on and on. I ended up with half a 5 gallon bucket just full of odd loaded rounds, from .22 to .45 that I ended up just throwing away since I had no idea what they were.

I told the seller that he could get much better prices but he would have to cull through everything, clean it, organize it, take pics and put it on Craigs list for the reloading items....or at least put the pistols on gunbroker.....but he didn't want to mess with anything like that and was just looking for enough to put up a head stone for his brother and wanted the bedroom cleared out.

We went to the State Police Barracks and did the paper on the guns. When I went back to pick them up after the wonderful mandatory waiting period he gave me about 10 boxes of books. Some were firearm related stuff, hunting and fishing, but mostly military history.....I still haven't gotten through all those. Plus all his fishing gear, which I know nothing about.

I gave the friend that steered me to the deal the Ruger .22 as a thank you.

As leery as I am of shooting someone else's hand loads I couldn't bring myself to dump all the ammo cans of .38 and .45 reloads and have been shooting them in the strongest 357s and .45s I have (a GP100 and the Speed Six I got as part of the deal as well as a Ruger P90 for the .45). This was in Oct of 2008 and I still haven't gotten through the .38 reloads....whenever I think it's all gone I end up finding another .30 cal ammo can in the ammo room full of his reloads....I read his notes that he left in the can then pull down and recheck some of the rounds before I take them to the range and haven't had any problems so far. I have hardly touched the .45 reloads (am a little more leery of those but have shot some). Here it is 2015 and I still haven't gone through all his reloads.

I can not list just one great deal as I have had so many....one just yesterday....I popped in to the LGS down the street and someone had just brought some brass in and he had not got around to bagging it yet so I got a bag or 30-30 brass for ten dollars and there were 99 sized and primed cases and another hundred still unsized. I have the primed ones already necked up for .32 Winchester.

Obama Scare

Back during the Obama Gun Grab Scare (the first one) I had a guy keep hounding me to sell him my mini 14. I told him no for almost 3 months until I named a price that I figured he would gag at. $2,000. He countered with $1,900. I took it. I didn't feel bad one bit. I had told him over a dozen times it wasn't for sale.

He thought he got a good deal too. :D

I traded a DDI AK-47 Underfolder with all Bakelite furniture and some mags and a optic mount with a SPARC II red dot (I had about $1,250-$1,300 total in the gun for EVERYTHING...

I traded it for a H&K P7 with mag and hard case plus $200...

I was able to sell the H&K P7 to a friend for $1,400 (they normally sell for ALOT more)

I so basically $1,600 for a DDI AK-47, not bad, then built a really nice handgun and paid some bills ;)

Sam's Club 24 gun safe......not a misprint, asked the clerk if I could keep the price tag because most wouldn't believe it.

Not a misprint? Perhaps we could argue terminology. It must be mis-priced or mis-marked if not a misprint. If that is the "everyday low price" then I would suggest you take a second mortgage on your house and go in to the safe business.

Early 90s I picked up an unissued 1954 Russian SKS for $100. Guy always had crates of them at the gun shows. I'd been walking buy them for a couple years finally broke down. Can't get a Chinese knockoff for that now.

Great condition Enfield No.4 for $150 around 2010.

At an auction this year I picked up a perfect condition Pacific 12 gauge press, 5 sets of rifle dies, several thousand bullets in various calibers, several thousand assorted brass, miscellaneous other reloading components ad tools AND a shootable 1886 Spanish Remington Rolling block. All in just over $500.

I just got quite a deal. I was at an estate sale today and found some grips on a table. One set was the Colt Pachmayr and the other was a second generation set that was missing the screw and the grip nut. The second generation set was in pristine condition other than the screw and nut. One side was much darker than the other but that didn't matter to me especially for the price. I took it to the guy in charge of that section for a price and you won't believe what price he quoted. He said $10.00 each, that's right ten dollars each. You better believe both came home with me. There were a lot of other shooting items there and I snatched up my share, maybe more. The deals are out there if you look and wait long enough. The last 5 times at this company's sales I haven't bought anything this time made up for it.

BTW I ordered a screw and nut from Numrich Arms for about $11 shipped so I don't believe I have done too bad.

Hah, you did good. :)

Estate sales can be goldmines as you found out. My neighbor died next door and they had an estate sale. In there I found an Invacare bed, an electric one that you can raise both ends with a remote. They wanted $300 for it but they sell for $1600+. I didn't have enough so I had to pass it up.

Damn, I wanted it but the next day which was Sunday they asked me if I'm still interested and they're letting it go for $100. hell yeah I bought it and busted my ass carrying it home piece by piece. The frame with the motors was a back breaker. talk about thick steel.
