What Would You Say?

at least he pays the ammo cost. my roomie(whom i gave a .22mag rifle) likes to blast thru my hand gun ammo, but wont consider buying his own gun, and doesnt split the ammo cost. when i mentioned it his answer was "you have tons of ammo!"

i havent taken him shooting since.

N.H. Yankee....

... please read the multiple posts in the thread by 45Gunner, since your response seems pretty over the top for what he's described.

His friend pays half for ammo, and half for dinner afterward.

45Gunner prefers to clean his weapons himself, because he's particular about how it's done - nowhere did he say the friend is unwilling, just that he doesn't want other people to clean his guns.

The friend's wife doesn't want him to have a gun.

45Gunner doesn't have an issue with letting him use the gun. 45Gunner has never said anything about the friend abusing the borrowed weapon, nor failing to take proper care with it.

Some of the responses in this thread have just amazed me....

How to describe JerseyDrez's "friend"?

JerseyDrez, I wrote a rather hot, ranting post about your friend. But in keeping with the adage, "If you can't say something nice, say nothing", I deleted it.

Here's the something nice. I am glad you learned the lesson of how to spot a leech and am happy that you have enemized him from your life.

By the way, guns from all reputable manufacturers since the Civil War have all had serial numbers, with some EXTREMELY rare. The dude was lying to you, I think. (I did read about a matched pair of genuine Colt Walkers without numbers. All evidence points to someone manufacturing them "off the books" and taking them out the back door. Now THOSE are collector's pieces. Even rarer than the WWII Finnish made 1911 45 ACP pistols with the Nazi markings.) Unlikely he knows any more about real guns than you do. (oops, something bad slipped into my post)

Lost Sheep.

P.S. I would try to keep track of him. 20 years from now, you might be able to say (when he hits the News) that, "Hey! I knew that guy back in '09!" Kind of like being able to say "Hey! I went to High School with Bernie Madoff!"

I don't think the guy is a mooch.

Some people just are not into guns as much as we enthusiasts are.

I have as many friends who like to shoot my guns as I have friends who shoot their own guns. I don't mind sharing the gun and the ammo even. I can learn from watching their stance and such and have learned a lot watching them shoot.

Besides, shooting is fun.
I don't own a boat, but if one of my friends does, I would be happy to ride around in it with him and pay for gas.
Some people are that way about guns.

And many married men are pretty much emasculated slaves who obey their Mastress like some submissive whimp.

Remember Al Bundy and the National Organization of Men Against Amazonian Mastery (NO MAAM)?

LOL...

I know guys who hide guns, fishing rods, archery gear, knives, etc... from the wife. I just can't figure out why they don't hook up with women who like that sort of thing.
I love dating chicks into the outdoors.
Love me, love my guns.

P.S.

My reply would have been "why do I need a wife when I can use yours" >>>>

Have you ever heard of swingers? Some people do just that.

Think about it. A single guy can save a LOT of expenses that way....

... but maybe you had a slight reading problem, Tipoc. It happens to the best of us

You're correct I missed that.

Don't change my main point. I have no opinion on what the fella oughta say to his friend, not enough info. And it's his friend not mine so if he don't know I sure don't.
"Dear Abby" is better equipped to answer than I am.

Guns were not required to have serial numbers in the U.S. until the GCA of '68 went into effect, and that includes guns made by "reputable manufacturers" such as Winchester and Remington.
