what would you do? gunbroker question.

He's either scamming your or he is just dumb and failed to keep his GB account current and in good standing.
His story about moving combined with his account being closed is entirely too coincidental, he may have done this to other sellers too and GB caught on to it and nixed him.

Regardless, all are his problems, not yours, don't eat a dime of it.

From Gunbroker's Terms of Service agreement.

6. Accuracy. You represent and warrant that all information given to us (including your name, address and other information associated with your account (“User Information”)), and all information communicated to other users of the Site, whether in a Listing or a Posting, is true, accurate, up-to-date and not misleading.

This is pretty clear.

I have had one item shipped to an old address in the last few years. When I was paying, online, PayPal overrode my input (I had not wished to pay via PayPal, as I mostly stopped using them a few years back). The site I was using apparently preferred PayPal; PayPal detected my email and credit card association, and somehow the system put in my old address even though I had typed my current address.

I didn't notice this had happened in the order confirmation email. I noticed it later, when the item had not arrived, and I contacted the seller for tracking info.

It had been delivered to my old address. Aaaargh!

Now, the seller felt bad about this. She offered to send me a new item, while she attempted to track down the one that was received at my former address. (S&W J frame grips; seller was Theresa, aka GripSeller on gunbroker; she is fantastic.)

I told her that I appreciated that, but the error was not her fault - I should have noticed the PayPal override on my address info. So, I paid her for another set of grips, and told her she could reimburse me for the first pair IF they came back to her.

She did eventually get them back. Next time I ordered from her, I ordered two pairs of Ahrends K frame grips, and she only charged me for one.

I think that problem was dealt with in a moral and ethical manner on both sides.

Hope that example helps.

If you want to find out if the address is correct you could do something a little sneaky. Send him a letter (Certified Mail - Return Recept) from your work address or some where else. The letter could be anything even an advertisement. The idea is if he signs for it it is his current address. If the letter comes back (return to sender) you will know it may not be his current address. I beats paying a PI for their service.

Or just do nothing.
He's already booted from GB, I doubt he can leave a bad review/rep on you at this point.
The mess is his fault anyway.

When you get this many responses AGREEING with each other, I think you might have your answer.

I'd jump in to this myself, but I don't think I could say anything that hasn't been said.

Yea, I appreciate it guys, I just didn't want to be a jerk about it. It seems I didn't do anything wrong though.

Thanks again.

Smells like a scam to me.

The ammo just vanished in thin air? doubt it. He is already banned from GB another huge red flag on top of it.

I would bet he tried to get 2 of everything he buys or a refund for one free, that's probably why he is banned.

He quit emailing me after the last email he sent asking me what I was going to do. I replied, I guess you can go to your old house and see if they have it.

I call Scam

I have done several transactions on Gunbroker and many on eBay over the years. One thing I have learned is that honest buyers and sellers work very hard to make sure every transaction goes perfectly. They over communicate consistently, in a positive way.

In my mind, anyone who would fail to provide you a correct shipping address is trying to pull a fast one. When you add in his negative feedback from previous transactions, I see no room for doubt about his motives.

You can only follow the proper procedures to complete your side of the transaction.

If you have a tracking receipt that your shipment was delivered to the address provided by the buyer which you must have to legally sell ammo by mail, you have completed the transaction to the best of your ability.

If the buyer cannot get someone he trusts to sign for it,then that's his problem.

Tell him,you have the signed receipt and for him to check with whoever he had sign for it.

This transaction is delivered, signed for legally and over.

Heck No! You shipped it to the address stated on Gunbroker. You did exactly what you were supposed to do. At any time, he could have updated his gunbroker account or even provided you with a different shipping address. How many people do you know who have had their Gunbroker account deactivated? I know of one guy who is regularly regarded as a scammer on a different forum and a convicted criminal who still has a gunbroker account. If he still has an account, the guy you were dealing with must really be a piece of work.

Where exactly did the buyer THINK the ammo was being sent?

I too think you are being scammed.
One thing about GB is they run a pretty tight ship. That explains why the buyer had his account closed.

One other thing I have noticed on GB is the address on GB is often 20% of the time, not the address the seller wants the payment sent to. This is the sellers problem, not a problem with GB.
When I buy, I always communicate before I send any money.

Piling on!
It's a scam!

But I have to say, I am so glad you have a "Moral Aspect"!

I don't know you from Adam's house cat, but I would not hesitate to deal with you. Good man!:):):):):)

Could be a scam. Could just be one of those people that always has a hard luck story, always the victim, never can get their "stuff together".

I've been fortunate on gunbroker. I am about totally done trying to buy anything (not gun stuff) on craigslist though. I do always feel much better on gunbroker selling than buying. Same on craigslist.

I used to sell collectibles via the internet. This type of scam is common. Just let it ride. If his claim is valid and serious he will take action. Call the bluff.

It sounds as if this one has been more than resolved, and there's really no need for more people to keep coming in and saying what's been said numerous times already.

Jacobie, if you hear anything more from this guy, let me know and I'll reopen this thread.
