What was your first powder...

First reloads for rifle, .223, I used IMR3031. Still do on occasion.

First reloads for handgun, .45acp, Bullseye. Now use Titegroup.

Too many folks missing the secondary info asked by the OP: in addition to the powder, what was the ammo used in?

My second center fire handloads:
I believe it was .45 ACP using Winchester 230gr FMJ bullets, CCI-300 Large Pistol Primers and Hercules Bullseye powder. Brass was most likely WCCxx head stamp Winchester.

The pistol was an AMT Hardballer Long Slide. Yes, still have it and the 686 and the 20ga Browning Citori for that matter.

The first powder I used was Alcan. I believe it was AL7. I was loading for a 16ga. shotgun around 1971. I then started loading for a 41 magnum. I didn't know it, at the time, but was addicted to reloading.

In 1969 I bought a new Super Blackhawk (112.00 no tax or paper)
The Powder of the day was 2400 and I used a lot of it .

About 1970 I got into Trap Shooting and shot a Winchester 97 and used Red Dot .

Now I use Win 296 and Unique in the 44 Mag and 44 Special

ADI AR2209 (it has another name in North America, I forget which & my reference chart is nowhere nearby) in the .303 British, for one and later two SMLE rifles. Since moving to Canada I use Varget and IMR 3031, the latter of which is IIRC a direct descendant of the non-cordite powder used in some .303 military loads!

I only started reloading a few years ago, and for 9mm and .45auto. My first powder purchase was a pound each of Clays and Silhouette. Have tried a bunch of other powders since, but still like those two and use them frequently.

Talcum, but I was really young and didn't apply it myself. snicker.
First reloading was done with a Classic Lee Loader in .243. Don't recall the powder, but I ended up with IMR4350.

Bullseye. For a S&W mod 28 shooting .38 target loads with full wad-cutters.

That was a long time ago but I still like Bullseys for target loads. It doesn't take much so a pound goes a long way.

Someone else had the same stuff I used!:D

Hercules Unique (still have the empty can) and W231 for 38sp/357mag, and this was back in 1989, I also messed with Blue Dot and 2400 (used to work in a Sporting Good store, I saw what customers bought the most, so bought several of them at once), because I still have some of that original stuff. Since I was using a scale and trickler the Unique was okay, but I graduated to a RCBS Uniflow, W231 took over.
