The XD was introduced in 2002 by Springfield Armory, based on the Croatian HS2000. The .45 version holds 13 rounds and is larger than the other chamberings. This is an excellent pistol, great for those want something polymer other than a Glock. Result Breakdown:

A prelock 686 ... strangely, I own a newer 686+ and it's probably the only gun I would never part with ... I prefer semis for SD, a Kahr PM9 or Kimber UCII are my carry guns, but I looove that 686 ...
The Smith and Wesson 686 is the stainless version of the 586. Chambered in .357 Magnum, it holds six rounds, or seven in the case of the 686 Plus.
