I prefer armed combat to unarmed combat. It's easier on the knuckles.

I carry a Remington 870 when I travel through the woods and I feel completely safe. Magnum loads really aren't necessary unless you're into pain. In my opinion, a shotgun at close range, even with birdshot, is one of the most devastating weapons around. I have an SKS paratrooper, which would be my second choice. However, this thing gets uncomfortable to lug around for any length of time. I'll take a shotgun for critter control anytime. Especially when snakes are present. It helps to have confidence in what you're carrying!!!!!!!!!!
