Defense is the key here - a target gun need only put bullets through the same hole as often as possible. Either will do that equally well - depending on the individual gun.
The 10 mm, still a great calibler, is limited in its defensive abilities when compared to a .44 mag. Which would you rather have on your hip when a 400 lb + bear stand ups and looks at ya 40 yards away in the ol' blackberry patch? A 10 mm, loaded to it hottest potential, or a .44 mag with 300 gr SWCs?
