What Kind of (Gun) Person Are you?

Captn John - I to am into Maks right now. Email me and let me pick your brain on the subject as I am still a novice with Maks.

I'm a "shooter".

Some gun people are collectors, and I respect that. But if I buy it, it's going to send lead downrange. :D

I grew up hunting. If you are (or were) raised in SE Texas and are NOT a hunter, then you have issues that you need to resolve. My favorites back then were the New England Arms 20-gauge single shot that I got for Christmas when I was 11 and my dad's little Remington .22 auto-loading rifle that would feed longs, shorts, and long rifle. Haven't had the opportunity to do any since I joined the Navy a dozen years ago, but I'm getting out in a couple of months and moving to Colorado where I have been promised frequent trips to chase the four-legged creatures. A fellow who goes to church with my parents is a hunt guide by profession, so I'm in! :D

Over the last couple of years (basically since I turned 30) I've gotten into handguns. I recently started shooting IDPA with my new Glock 21, and I am hooked! But I also love reaching out and touching the target at many paces with my .308 Savage 10FP. I haven't had the chance to shoot it beyond 200 yards, but I feel pretty sure of myself since I can shoot about an inch and a half at that distance.

Basically, I'm a "NUT"! :D :D :D

I like what ever I have the ammo for. Enjoy all, but would have to say that I'm a wheel man at heart. Ruger Single Six, Dan Wesson 15-2vh in 357, Colt Trooper Mark III, Rossi 971 are a few of my favorite things. And I don't even mind chores such as squarrel control. :)

The debate is not about guns,
but rather who has the ultimate power to rule,
the People or Government.

Amen to that. If it's mine, it's gotta go "BANG" every once in a while.

Teach a kid to shoot.
It annoys the antis.

Rifles for the most part, especially the beautiful British sporting classics that contributed to create the "safari" mistique.

Competitive rifle, very much so (M1 Garand rules!)

Handguns strictly for self-defence.

Shotguns just for....... "status"....

I'm with the Oleg/David/defense crowd for the most part. I mainly buy guns for self-defense and purely for the reason that I think they may be banned in the future, and don't like anyone, esp. the gov't, telling me what to do. I like pistols, revolvers, rifles, and shotguns, and for the reason listed above I prefer "ugly", black, non-PC, military, semi-auto stuff, but anything that is high-quality and does the job asked of it is great. Not much on hunting, though I do like shooting the birds that crap all over my backyard. I'm afraid to go hunting, because as much as I like shooting those birds, I fear hunting will get in my blood and I'll be hooked for like - that's the last thing I need is another hobby - I don't even have enough time and money for the hobbies I have now. Likewise with competition shooting. I do thoroughly enjoy the technical aspects of ballistics, due to my natural scientific curiosity, and for that reason cannot wait to get into reloading - that's one hobby I am willing to add to my plate and plan to as soon as I get enough to buy a Dillon 550, accessories and supplies.

I just plain like guns. When I'm not doing something else, my mind turns to guns. In class I doodle guns on my notes. As I write this I look at my book shelf that has about 30 inches of gun books, and two big piles of old gun magazines. Everybody who knows me knows that I'm a gun nut. I can't watch a movie with out trying to identify the guns.

I grew up hunting every day, as I got older I just kind of drifted out of it. Haven't gone hunting in years, though I wouldn't mind starting up again. Mostly now I just punch paper and shoot cans. I guess that I'm a hard core plinker.

Mostly I shoot hand guns because I figure if I ever have to use a gun seriously thats what it will probably wind up being.

Next I like rifles that are black and scary looking. ;)

I have a dream of starting my own gun company, I have this wicked cool idea and business plan that just won't get out of my head. Those of you who hang out in the rifle forum over the last couple of years have seen a glimpse of some of my rantings. Someday...

Flintlocks and those new-fangled breech-loading single shots of the 1880's. Alas, I have to settle for H&R Buffalo Classics (not THAT bad, really).

I have recently regressed though - fell in love with a M96 Swedish mauser and must admit there may be something to these magazine rifles after all. :)

I'll have to agree with kjm. .22 Rimfire rules. It doesn't have really long range or huge killing power, but for just plain cheap fun and good general firearms practice and education, nothing beats a simple .22 rimfire rifle or handgun.

I'm also just starting to try my hand at long-range shooting.
