I voted "other". I'm an enthusiast who shoots for fun. I want to take classes necessary to participate in shooting leagues and competitions, and consider home defense a big plus. I have never hunted and have zero interest in it (I could never pull the trigger on an animal that's not endangering me or someone I care about).
Other: While I do like to shoot for fun, I don't think I'm really an enthusiast. My main purpose is competition (National Skeet Shooting Association). I hope to get into pheasant hunting this fall.
Many gun collectors and owners live and work in dense metropolitan areas which have very little, if any shooting venues open. And when they do get time off from work, they may have to take care of their families and children, so they won't have any time to head to a range outside their city or attend a event like Cowboy Action Shooting or combat matches.
So it's probably not that they don't want to shoot guns, but they don't have the time to.
Other: I don't hunt any more, but I still enjoy range shooting, and I keep handguns for self defense. There wasn't a choice for that combination,as noted by previous posts.
I collect some, shoot some, have some for home defense, some for personal protection, but I don't hunt. Blasting Bambi doesn't bother me a bit, I just have never done it. And now at my age frankly, it seems like a lot of work. I just invite friends over to do the dirty work and collect a bit of tribute.
I am a collector, home defense shooter, personal defense shooter, and police officer. Firearms are a major part of my job. I am one of my department's Firearms Instructors, and I am also the Senior Armorer.
Mostly enthusiast. Tinker too. Quite glad to see that enthusiast (as in "Gentleman Firearms Enthusiast") has replaced the somewhat pejorative "Gun Nut..."
I also voted other. I shoot for fun, and to improve and maintain my shooting skills. I have several firearms for personal protection. I do not hunt any more...not that there is anything wrong with that...I just don't enjoy it as I once did.
Most of my milsurps are safe queens, a combination of hard to find ammo, time, finding a range, etc. It's like collecting old radios or TVs-you can't tune in 1935 or 1955 but you can admire the workmanship, the design, etc.
