What is your favorite rifle ...

Very partial to my childhood friend a Remington Fieldmaster model 121 iron sights. and my High Standard Double nine.

i can shoot .22's all day, I love them.;)

My two favorites are for sentimental reasons- a Marlin Model 60 .22lr and believe it or not, a Golden State Arms Sproterized Mauser in .30-06 Sprg. Oh, and my Rem 1903A3 that was given to me when I came home from Iraq.

I have others that tickle my fancy, but nothing that really tugs at my sentimentals like the ones I mentioned above.

Its hard to decide.

I guess my pre-64 Winchester Model 70 .308 Featherweight and my S&W .44 Magnum (pre Model 29).

Same one since the last time this question was asked. :)

favorit rifle

bolt action ,Nosler model 48 custom sporter in 300wsm,semi auto model 21 springfield m1a,true quality tack drivers

for me it's my 7mm08 browning a bolt with a leopold scope, and since i don't own a hand gun i'll pick another rifle, it's a uberti henry rifle in .45 colt.

Man that's a tough question??

I have a couple Colt AR's,also a DPMS LR308AP4 Carbine, several bolt actions, and 22 rifles....On the rifle I am going to have to say my Remington 700 BDL 7mm rem mag with a HS Precision stock and Leupold VXIII 4.5-14X50LR W/30mm tube and illuminated reticle,it has tagged a lot of game 30 yds out to 500. With some great memories, one of the most memorable tagging 2 whitetail in the same field 500+ yds out.
I gave my son my stand because of all of the buck sightings,so I went and sat in a huge corn field on one of the upper terraces, while sitting there with not much going on? I had a doe appear way out there,in a kneeling position I squeezed off on the doe Thud, she disappeared. From the corner of my left eye I see gleaming from the setting sun on a nice Rack!!! trailing 300 yds behind the doe.
Now the hearts pumpin' and the bucks running,I squeeze one off and begin chambering another, squeeze the trigger "click" WTH??? I had only loaded 2 rounds in the rifle?? (brain phart!!) LOL
While the buck is running w/o taking my eyes off the deer,I reach into my pocket where my leather cartridge holder is and by feel start stuffing cartridges into the empty rifle. The buck stopped to find where the danger was??
From a kneeling position and sighting in on the buck,i'm thinking to myself..."I have to make this one count"I squeeze off the 7mm rem mag....THUD!!!! the old buck's still standing not walking very well,I chamber another THUD!!!....I just shot one of my largest Whitetail bucks for me to date!!...(Edit And the aging Hunter felt pretty young that evening :) LOL)

When I recovered both deer from the field the buck had been hit with all three shots.
The next day I double checked my range finder 506 yds and the truck odometer rolled nearly 3 tenths of a mile driving between my shooting position and where the deer were shot

That's why my Remington 700 BDL 7rem mag is my favorite rifle!! Nuthin' fancy, but she's a shooter

Favorite rifle and pistol

After 50 years my favorite rifle in the No.4 Mk II and No.1 MkII Lee Enfield rifles (I have 6 of them)

My favorite pistol is a toss-up between the Colt Commander in .45 acp, and the Browning High Power.

Wow, those are some really nice guns guys!

After I started this thread I realized that someone has a really similar one, so sorry about that. Also apparently I'm a troll for starting the whole bench rest thread ... I'm not a troll, I'm just trying to start some fun threads and ask about stuff that I've wondered about. I don't mean to offend anyone and I didn't even think about the fact that handicapped people might have to do that. To each their own, I was just curious. I see people with lead sleds every time I go to the range and I didn't understand why anyone would do that, especially at 100 yards ... For those who are wondering I shoot a $400 30-06 resting on a box of ammo. Next time I go to the range, which will probably be in a few months since it costs a fortune, I plan on buying a bipod and trying that out.

They do it to take human error out of the equation while sighting in their rifles. That in turn translates to more accuracy when shooting off hand, or with a less than ideal rest.

I don't know the people you see, but I know how people who know what they are doing sight their rifles in and test their handloads. Hint, resting on a box of ammo is not the way.

If you only knew how the above quote sounds to experienced shooters who know what they are doing, you wouldn't have written it.

@ Nate45, I know exactly how it sounds and that's why I wrote it. It's either that or just trying to freehand it. I was just trying to clear the air from the bench rest thread because that didn't seem to go to well and that wasn't my intention. I think I might just stop going on forums because it seems like everyone hate's me. I don't appreciate you saying that I'm an inexperienced shooter. I've been shooting since I was 10 years old. I had my first 9mm when I was 13. I have a pretty good idea of what I'm doing and talking about, more so then a lot of people. I just don't have an unlimited budget so I have to make due with what I have. My rifle costs less then some peoples scopes on here but at the end of the day they would both kill a deer.

My favorite rifle is always the next one.

I love the process of hunting for my next rifle to own. Research, comparisons, sweaty palms and clumsy fondling in the backseat... er, retail counter.

So, that said.... I'm currently thinking about an 1885 High Wall

I didn't say you were inexperienced, lots of people have 30+ years experience doing things the wrong way.

For example home made sand bags, or even a rolled up jacket would make better rests than a box of ammo. One doesn't need to be rich to form a solid rest. Someone schooled in accurate rifle shooting would know that.

I really don't care how you do it though, I do care a little that you imply that people who are sighting in and testing their rifles the proper way, are somehow not as good a shot as you are. Everything I know about rifle shooting points in the opposite direction on that being the actual case.

I don't imagine anyone here hates you, since we don't even know you. All we know is what you write. When you write things that don't match up with commonly acknowledged facts and practices, expect a rebuttal.

Fair enough, let's just agree to disagree. I see your point about the rolled up jacked but the ammo box was all I had at the time. It actually worked pretty well ... Like I said, if you like to shoot on a rest, bench, whatever it is that's fine. What you do is you do is your business. I just didn't understand why someone would be shooting a whole box of ammo through a 30-06 clamped down(looked like clamps). It wasn't like a few shots to sight it in, this guy went through an entire box with it like that. That isn't the first time I've seen that either, so that's why I started that thread, to see why someone would do that.

Funny you should ask.....

I had my favorite combo in the woods yesterday with me on the last day of deer season here in Bama.....Marlin 336 and Browing Hi Power. Both are pure classics, feel GREAT in my hand, and are far more accurate than people give them credit for. I love the fact both are old designs that are still kicking around and as useful as ever.
