What is your "best buy" gun?

What single gun do you consider your "best buy"? It could be a smoking hot good deal as far as money goes, or it could be that dream gun you stumbled upon by chance. The only criteria is that it has to be BOUGHT, not given or passed down to you.

Your decision on what makes it the best buy.

What gun, why do you consider it your best purchase?

Mine, a like new Makarov in 380 (I have a thing for 380s) found in a pawn shop for $199 OTD. Not a hard to find gun or an eye-poping price, but when I saw it I new NOTHING about the Makarov. I spent 5 minutes on my internet phone and it seemed like a well respected gun, so I bought it on a whim.

It is becoming my most shot gun. $199 on a whim and it turns into the gun I always take to the range. Accurate, tough, inexpensive, did I mention tough?

i bought a savage model 99 lever action 308 with leupold scope for $625. that same week i listed it on gunbroker and got $1500 for the gun and $550 for the scope.

i might have an even better one for you soon :D

And my prized possession is a Winchester 52C for $500 cash.

I bought a 2nd gen. colt SAA .357mag 5.5 barrel, at a pawn shop (of all places), for 150.00.. They thought it was a replica. :D

My stainless, 4 inch, Ruger GP-100. I bought it used, but it had only had a few boxes of ammo through it prior to my purchase. What makes it my "best buy": I only paid $250.00 for it!

Hands down I traded a Smith & Wesson 642 .38 Special for a perfect condition Smith & Wesson 1086 10mm. Thats my best buy because I bought the 642 back when they were $349.99.

S&W Model 14-8 Classic 38Spl. I went through a few grips before coming to grips with a set of round top Corian made by Don Collins. The balance and accuracy of this gun are beyond any of the over a dozen centerfire handguns that I now own. I know it's got IL and MIM but all that seems to get lost when shooting it.

I wanted a classic Colt Commander, and looked at a lot of '50s-'70s guns in average condition priced in the $650-$750 range. They were all just a bit too used for me, even though they were "original", without mods or damage. Then, a minty, mostly stock, early Series 80 showed up on gunbroker. Without really thinking I'd win the auction, I bid the $485 minimum and won it. No reversible mods, trigger job using Wilson Combat parts, 98% finish. I retrofitted it with an original nub grip safety, and polished slide stop and grip screws to give it a pre-80 look. Just what I wanted. Even for $100 more, I'd still consider it a great deal.

My Colt Delta Elite. A friend offered to get me one with his FFL at no charge. Best he could do was $500. Nice of him but I found one at Goodman's Gun Show for $425 NIB. I still consider it probably my best deal, though it was over 20 years ago.

I picked up a NICE blued Delta Elite for 400, later I picked up a never fired H&K USP Match 45 with all the goodies for 800.

Had-a 4" M-29, bought it in 1973, in the box, paid $200 or so at the height of the Dirty Harry craze.
Have-a 4" nickle S&W M-27-2-WITH an action job. $250, 1985.

I got a great deal on a slightly used S&W Model 22 Classic-$500! I also just bought a Model 21-4 in 44 special for $600. Time to start reloading.

I have gotten a good deal on all of my guns, well that is what I tell my wife anyway. I guess my best deal was about ten years ago on a Remington M1 carbine for $150 and a 20 year old Sears John Boat. I no longer have the carbine but my buddy still has the boat.

It was a Cadet Martini (yeah, I know this is "Handguns" but...). Bought it from a guy I worked with around 1990. He told me he was going to have to make a couple bucks on it so since he paid $8 for it he would have to get $10.

S&W 629 Mtn

I walked into a deal on an early mfg .44 Mtn Revolver shortly after they were introduced. Guy has inquired about buying it back, and remarked to others he wished he'd never sold it. Its worth about twice what I paid for it these days!!!

Portable .44 mag, I load it about 3/4 power and have never regretted the buy.

My "good friend" needed some money and
he sold me his S&W mod 41 and a Marlin 444 centennial
He wanted 600 bucks, no more.
So I says yes.Months later I felt bad and gave him
$200 more.
THEN I find out he has been arrested for molesting minors.
Geez, ya just never know.
I immediately sold both guns and to this day I'm still
shocked.

There are plenty of good buys especially on the Internet.

Surplus handguns generally exceed expectations of most who buy them. A Yugoslavian Md. 57 7.62x25 Cal. for under $300 in very good to excellent condition is a great gun at a very good price. In fact any Tokarev from Romania, Hungry or yugo are all very similar. Polish, Bulgarian Makarov's, older Czech CZ 82, 100's are also usually good surplus buys. Some, graded as Excellent Condition have never been fired.

Even some of the lesser known Armscor and American Classic 1911's are usually good values. they are built in modern factories in the Philippines. Guess what? That's the same place where new Colts are made.

I still think a new CZ 75B is one of the best 9mm values on the market today.

5906 trade in for $329. This thing barely had holster wear. I just replaced the grip and felt I had a steal. I know you can find a lot of these out there, but I think it's a best buy.

The 5906 is a great gun. I had some but they sold out pretty fast. I do have a few SW4043's left.
