What is this Hornady Zmax crap?

Never once in any of my posts did I say they shouldn't sell it or that people can't/shouldn't buy it. Just wondering what makes it special or different. And pointing out the fact that I think its ridiculous. if it sells then good for them.

The only problem I have with the Zmax ammo is the lack of real world reports on its performance against zombies. The stuff has been out for a while now and I would expect a least a few reports with pictures, extracted slugs, and information on distance shot, distance ran, etc.

I probably won't buy any until I see some of those real world reports and am impressed by what they appear to offer. Otherwise, I will stick with the standard rounds that have been traditionally used for zombies.

Some people just don't have a sense of humor...

But, I have a different concern about it...

I don't think it presents Hornady, the firearms industry, or firearms owners in a particularly good light.

Firearms and ammunition are, and should be, serious stuff.

Zombies aren't serious stuff, because they're not real, at least in terms of zombie invasion crap, and I really don't think one of the premier manufacturers should be going this route.

+1

Nice:D

Cowboys and Indians?

I may be wrong about this, given that I've only got a degree in American History, but I THINK that there were actually cowboys, guys who actually worked with cows, at some point in American history.

And, I could be equally wrong about this, but I seem to recall that there were actually people called Indians inhabiting parts of this country at one point in time...

At, one of my survey classes actually hinted at the possibility that those two groups actually came into conflict at some point....

And that guns were part of that.

But I don't recall any of my professors ever talking about the American Zombie Tribes, or them hunting great herds of Zombolos.

If we're talking about capturing those elements of momentarily popular culture and building sales and marketing campaigns around it, why hasn't Hornady brought out a line of Turban Slayer Anti Terrorist ammo?

Could they be afraid of popular lash back?

Whatever.

As I said, I'm not in favor of it, I think it's trivializing, pandering to the wrong aspects of firearms ownership, and projects the wrong image about firearms owners and ownership.

But if you're happy with it, then enjoy the silliness.

Its just there V-Max ammo that they changed the tip color to green and put in a fancy box. To be honest, they are a genius for doing this cause its a amazing marketing pitch which im sure helped sell alot of that ammo. I know when it first was released you couldn't get it anywhere cause of how fast it was selling. It is only a limited run so its just one of those special things they do for fun which i like to see from a company. I love what Hornady is doing these days and they make pretty much the best ammo out there!

They are both based in popular culture and ALL shooters SHOULD be embraced as part of the fraternity of the American Shooting Culture.

I don't think so!! Next, you will want to adopt a mass murderer as just a good old country boy.

I agree, if you want to shoot Zombie then go to your XBox and turn on Black Ops. (all the zombies you will ever need)

I think you missed the class that pointed out that they DIDN'T carry firearms, that a sidearm cost a whole months pay and that firing a handgun was not viewed as a good thing in the middle of a herd of cattle. So what does SASS have to do with cowboys??? (Nothing)

As far as people buying Z-Max ammo or bullets, they buy pet rocks too don't they?

I seem to recall learning something about that when I was studying to be a history teacher... The reality is, however, that most people who get into cowboy style shooting are doing so in response to the romance built up by Hollywood movies, not any real connection to the actual Old West. The silver screen version of cowboys is far enough from the real thing that it may as well be fiction. In fact, it could be argued that since there is an historical reality to which to compare the Old West fantasy, it is even worse than Zombie fantasies, which have no reasonable responsibility to be truthful since they are completely based in fiction.

great herds of Zombolos

Now that's just funny:)

Well, Jim, I'd say you're wrong about that.

Cowboys DID own firearms. And it's very likely that firearms ownership was pretty high.

It's just very doubtful that every cowboy owned a matched set of silver plated Colt SAAs with elephant ivory grips with high-relief Mexican Eagle carvings...

But, there WERE westerners who actually carried such rigs, and used them.

So, go figure.

And yes, cowboy action shooting does harken to the romance of the old west...

But again, unlike with the zombies, it actually has a basis in actual, historical reality, so no, I don't agree that it's somehow worse than creating a fictional scenario as the basis for which to sell firearms, ammunition, whatever.

Yeah Mike, you shouldn't have put in the Zombie George Washington link... now someone will argue that there IS histroical context for zombies:rolleyes:

Here ya go, Mike...

Yes, gun ownership was likely high amongst the cowboys. That isn't to say that they carried guns all the time as guns were not necessarily beneficial to certain cowboy duties, but certainly they owned them.

Maybe 35 years ago...

Go to Home Depot or Menards, they still sell them, the last one I saw was at Walgreens about a month ago for $5.00.

Now Lava Lamps, those are hard to find.
