What is the best 40SW?

Which is the best?
I would think it depends on its use and purpose. For me its a Walther P99 with the AS trigger. Its small enough to use a daily cc and large enough to be pretty accurate at distance.

For me it is a SIG P239-40 with Houge wrap around grips and my reloaded ammo, your experience may vary! :D
Glocks are good pistols and if they work well for you and you carry one at work then I would carry one off duty.

IWI Baby Eagle

Standard Size. Heavy, but almost zero recoil. I qualified with this weapon, and keep mags loaded with 180 grain Hydroshocks. It will hit want you want to hit. I liked it so much, I purchased its lil brother 9mm compact for ccw.

Awesome gun.

Best handgun in .40 is the sig 229 and the glock 22.:D
Best .40 cal ammo for me and my guns is either ranger t series or federal hst's.

If you're talking about ammo, use the same stuff they issue you. If it's good enough for on-duty carry, it's good enough for off-duty as well.

I have a glock 22 and a sig p229. That sig is the gun I shoot the best. That includes all but a couple of new guns I haven't shot yet.

Um...well....

The .40 S&W was created and first manufactured by Smith & Wesson.
Ergo, Smith & Wesson makes the best .40 S&W.

XDm of course.

Springfield XDm .40. Great gun, reliable, amazing grip, 16+1 capacity, eats all kinds of .40 ammo and comes with a rail for lights/lasers.

I have fired a lot of .40 caliber 'weapons' over the years and am fairly unimpressed with it.

In my experience the only accurate .40s have been the Berettas and the Taurus clones.

Most .40s have pretty harsh muzzle blast and snappy recoil, so I stick with a .45.
My H&K USP is so innacuarate you can hardly hit the side of a barn from the inside with it. On the other hand, my buddy's .45 USP is a tack driver.
I notice the XD in .45 caliber tends to shoot better than .40 XDs as well, albeit the XD-M models are pretty good shooters.

The .40 is fairly common as a Law Enforcement duty weapon in my area and it has an HORRIBLE reputation for stopping power in real life shootings in my area. I can think of several shootings where the .40 basically had no effect from a fleeing felon who shot it out with cops and soaked up over a half a dozen .40 hollowpoints and had to be beaten into submission with ASP batons and flashlights to the guy who shot himself in the leg with the .40 and drove himself to the hospital.

On the other hand, I can tell you about numerous one shot stops with 9mm and .38 caliber weapons in the same area, like the murder victim who caught a round nose lead .38 through the lungs, stumbled into his garage, fell down, called 911 and died on the phone.

I have numerous .45s, .44s, .357s, etc... and only one .40.

The only reason I can see to even own one is to mooch ammo off your friends who shoot .40s.
I shoot with police officers who usually have plenty of .40 caliber and can score free ammo that way.
But honestly, the .45, 9mm, .38 and .44 special are a LOT more fun to shoot and more accurate to boot.

If I was gonna go out and buy a new .40 today, I would think twice, but if I still couldn't talk myself out of it, I probably would look at an FNP pistol. They look good, seem to perform okay and are not as expensive as some of the other tactical tupperware out there.
I like the CZ designs too, though.
I am not big on striker fired guns which are basically oversized Ravens.

I have a Sig P229 with a .40 bbl and a .357 Sig bbl. I have a Kahr PM40 which is one of my carry guns. Love them both. I find the stories of people taking "x" hits and keeping on a fight not credible; certainly not solely in regards to the .40. Same anecdotal "evidence" could be cited for any caliber.

Best handgun in .40 is the sig 229

SIG - Overpriced, their CS is questionable, Pistols are subject to failures after high round counts, meticulous cleaning to keep functioning -

G22, G23, G27 - better choice, less money, will last forever, time tested and LEO proven, will fire with NO CLEANING, CS is superb but who would ever know because they never break -

Now here comes all the SIG babies crying and whining about the money they wasted - stand by - lol...

cop-out

I had carried a 1911 pattern .45 for thirty five years, and was never impressed by the Mattel toys until I started firing for qualification for L.E.O.S.A. concealed carry with the local sheriff"s department. After watching 1 to 2 thousand rounds a day shot through Glocks of all models with only one malfunction that was caused by a small female deputy limp wristing her weapon that was cured when we talked her into locking her wrist, I became converted. I now carry a Glock Mod. 22 on a daily basis. I have put over 4000 rounds through it with it yet to fail go bang when I pull the trigger. It is ugly. It feels funny, but points instinctively, is completely reliable, and the finish on the slide is highly rust resistant. If I could only teach it to fetch a beer when I am sitting home watching TV it would be perfect. But I couldn't teach the 1911 to do that either.
