What is a mouse gun to you?

I thought a mouse gun was less than 5" overall and an inch or less thick, so the PM9 qualifies but the glocks don't. But i could be wrong.

The .25's, .22's, and maybe 32's have always been considered mouseguns without much argument. The .380 is debatable. Of course, once the subject comes up, you hear many different opinions since the definition becomes anything less than the opiner would carry.

I think the general definition pertains more to light caliber than small size of the gun.

I've had very good results with a Marlin 39 M carbine for shooting mice. I use CB caps. I lived a couple years off and on in a tipi many years ago, and shot a couple dozen mice with that setup. I kept the rifle on a box by the bed. The sound of a mouse running acorss the canvas floor would wake me up, I'd slowly reach for the rifle and light, and point it at the sound of the mouse wandering about. I'd turn on the light and would have maybe 2 or 3 seconds to make a shot before they figured out something was up. Had about the same results in the first cabin I lived in. Couldnt ever keep the mice out of it. I think I shot easily a couple dozen mice in it with the same mouse gun and loads.

I used a 44 with birdshot on the rattlesnake I shot in the house. Hard on floors.

I look at it in relation to the intended target. A 44 Magnum is a mouse gun to an elephant. I have seen a few guys walking around in public that made me think of my 45acp as a mouse gun, I kid you not. No worries about over-penetration with them!

A "mouse gun" is a designation made by an arrogant, self-seeking ego-maniac who's brittle opinions far outweighed his experiece and actual knowledge. I consider it akin to "saturday night special" and "assault rifle"; and about as accurate.

I bet my mouse gun is more accurate than your saturday night special. :p

How many mice does a guy have to shoot to be considered experienced, anyway?

As I though; "Mouse Gun" is many things to many people.

It seems to be an indefinite term used by some as a derogatory term and by others to describe a small handgun which shoots a small cartridge.

We have no consensus.

This guy in the fur coat is using a mouse gun. ;)

There are small revolvers, but in actual experience, the mouse gun is an automatic pistol. It is a gun smaller than a PPK, about like a Jetfire. These used to be available only in .25 Auto or so. Nowadays, they go all the way up to 9mm. But above about .32 Auto, they get pretty snappy. Even the .32 Auto is hard to handle in a blow-back gun.

Mouse gun = Any handgun .32 or smaller caliber carried for self defense against humans.

I don't think physical size or type of handgun has anything to do with it. A S&W Model 18 K-Frame .22 caliber revolver carried for SD is a "Mouse Gun". That is, it's not quite an appropriate caliber for the intended target.

The term Poodleshooter is similar. It has nothing to do with the physical size of the arm. Instead it is all about caliber relative to the target.

I agree.... it's more of a derogatory term and I try not to use them, but.....
When I hear "mouse gun" I think of 32, 25 and 22's.... that you can cup in your hand. That being said.... here is a 'mouse gun' that totally defies my definition.... and that cat is in a world of trouble!! :D

I prefer the term "backup gun" or "BUG". Even if it is a person's primary weapon, it is much less derogatory.

Like others here, when I think of a mouse gun I think of caliber more than the size of the gun itself. .380 and below in the United States. Perhaps in Europe and developed South American countries, I'd think .380 wouldn't really be a mouse gun... but I'll admit to being largely ignorant about that, and my opinion is based only on what I read on the Internet.

My Keltec P32 and my NAA mini. I think of both of these as mouseguns per say. More importantly I think of them as always guns.

MOUSE GUN what I can carry in my front pocket .I HAVE BIG POCKETS.22.32. 380 . 9MM. &40 SW .A walther pps is a mouse gun for some shooters.
