Despite my preference for lightweight compact 1911's, if I was limited to one pistol for year round self defence: Glock 27
Main reason: Glock is easier to conceal (than compact 1911) due to the shorter grip and that is important during the warm months or when very discrete carry is needed.

I sure am glad someone starts this thread once a week on one forum or another because its like I change my mind once a week. I guess this is it for this week.

IF ONLY ONE

SW 6in 686 plus; hunt, self defense, economical target practice, availability and variety of ammunition. If only one for everything, then it is a series of compromises. My pick represents a jack of all trades, master of none.

From the point of view of favorites my 2nd generation 44spl Colt New Frontier with 7 1/2"bbl. From the point of view of practicality my Glock .40 m-27. It is ugly but they never quit.

Of the guns I have...

... it would be a S&W 13-3 3"; I'd have to take up handloading, but it would be versatile enough to cover the vast majority of my handgun needs.
