What has more stopping power the .45 caliber acp or the .40? I've been told that the .40 is but the .45 is a larger caliber.

like packa said..

just search for it. 40 is faster but 45 is a little bit wider. they both stop very well. shoot both and chooose which ever one feels better to you. :) :) :) :)

It's quite simple, handguns don't have stopping power period. Use premium HPs and there is no difference between .40 and .45 and a very small difference between .40, .45, and 9mm.

Wider and heavier. A true pick-em really - more apt to be determined by weapon choice and capacity then '1 stopping better then the other'.

I really think that .40 is a LOT better choice for self defence then .45. (I’d rather take a 9mm over .45) The reason is capacity. Plus most .40 loads are a bit more powerful than .45 anyways …

i think the mod should make a sticky. the motherload thread of all 9mm vs 40 vs 45 sv 357

Yep, I have done my time there - certain folks are bound and determined to fight until others give in, and if they can't do that with facts or logic, pretty soon it's your education and your ancestors that they focus on.

Since there are tons of topics about .45ACP.. I assume he must be inquiring about a .45 other than ACP.. So I would say.. the .45/70 loaded hot has the most stopping power :-)

:D

Let's not forget to throw the .41 Magnum and the .44 Special into the mix.

When we get tired of that we can talk .38 Super vs. .44 Russian!

:D

The 45-70 Govt is a terrific one-shot-stop performer on squirrel. :p One shot, COM, usually puts 'em down for the count, even if they are stoked up on crack! :D

I swear, I think the next time I see the words "stopping power", I'm going to close the thread sight unseen. For now, I'll just move this out of the semi forum to the general HG forum...

(I guess thread drift is acceptable at this point in the conversation. :) )

BTW, there's still woods in NOVA?
Yes, believe it or not! But, I guess it also depends on your definition of 'NOVA'. It does include space outside the Beltway, you know. :)

what's wrong with stopping power? The gun has more punch to it and is more likely to stop the criminal right?
