If your talking pistol's I carry my P97 with Cor-Bon 200grn +P.
If shot gun I carry use my Win 1300 20gauge, with 3"mag #2 shot.

Which one I would rely on depends on the circumstances. If I had to pick one it would be my Shotgun with varrying loads for different situations.

Wilson Combat CQB with 230gr Hydro-shoks
AND
Kimber Ultra Elite with 185gr Corbon JHP

Wilson is for cooler weather when concealment is not an issue. Kimber is for warm weather months. Wilson is worn with a Mitch Rosen ARG and the Kimber is worn with a Bianchi 3S. Both are IWB.

I'll second what Tom B said. All my handguns are worthy, otherwise, they don't stay in the family long enough to teach the others their bad habits. ;)

That said, my preferred carry gun is my Springfield V10 (hey George! another 1911!) with 230gr ball.

Colt series 70 Gold Cup customised loaded with Winchester 230gr +p Ranger SXT it has already saved my life so I know it works.I just hope it doesnt have to again

Smith & Wesson Model 19, 2.5" or 4", loaded with 125-gr. Remington Golden Sabres.

As an alternative, my P7M13 or Kahr K9 loaded with Hydrashoks.

My Ruger Speed Six with 125 gr. HP. If I'm in a different mood it will be either my Caspian Commander with 230 Hydrashoks or my Browning Hi Power with 115 +p Corbons.

First line of self defense-- Colt .45ACP L.W. Commander. WW 185 gr. Silvertips.

Long gun? Really depends on situation. Sometimes shotgun; sometimes rifle. J.B.

While I have a few handguns that I would trust (including my G23, 92SS, 229, and P99), the one I have in my nighttable drawer and always seem to reach for whenever I have any real concerns is my stainless steel Para-Ordanance P13.45. I have 5 full 13 round clips, three of which are loaded with Black Talons (2 spares, you can never have too many hi-caps). I have a galco concealable holster and safariland double clip pouch. I don't think you can beat 13 rounds of .45 in a package that size (I'm 5-7 and prefer midsize guns to fullsize ones). The heft of the stainless steel minimizes recoil nicely, and the thing is reliable and deadly accurate.
One final note, I have a Carbon-15 type 97 pistol on order (check out www.c-15.com if you're not familiar with it) which would definately qualify as a handgun. I'd also be tempted to choose it but we'll have to wait and see.

Glock 30 .45acp--230gr Federal Hydrashocks
Sig229 .40/.357sig--150gr Fed Hydrashocks(40)
125gr corbon (357sig)
CZ-75 9mm--proload 115gr +p (gold dots)
S&W model66 .357 mag--Federal 125 Hydrashock
AMT DAO backup .380--Triton 90gr +p Quikshok

They all work.

Right now it is a Norinco 1911A1 loaded with 230 grain Remington Golden Sabers. Before it was an Ithica 1911A1 loaded with 230 grain Remington JHP's. Why? Let us just say that I have had good luck with that combo.

I sleep good at night knowing I have some 230gr hydra-shock hollow points  in my Colt. I know all it will take is one shot, center of mass, to take an intruder off his feet and land him soldily on the floor.
