I have three and they are all top shelve and reliable. Here are my current choices and calibers: a Sig P226, Glock 19, and a Glock 27. Many that know me will say: "What, no Browning?" I don't know why but that may change. I feel comfortable with any well made handgun in 9mm or larger. How about you? Regards, Richard.

I alternate between these, depending on what has been moved to the range box for my next trip...

Smith & Wesson Model 19 4" .357 Mag.

Smith & Wesson Model 28 4" .357 Mag.

Charter Arms Off Duty 2" .38 Spl.

Beretta 92 9mm

H&K P7M13 9mm

Right now it's the Charter Arms in the nightstand.

Beware the man with the S&W .357 Mag.
Chances are he knows how to use it.

Me: Glock 21.

Wife: S&W Model 10 (w/ 3-inch heavy barrel).

My carry gun (Glock 26 or SIG P228) is usually handy as well.

My only weapon, SW99 9mm. I will purchase a Glock 9mm in the next few weeks.

I love the feel of the SW99, but I can't get use to the unique trigger mechanism, even after 1800 rounds.

S&W Model 19, 4" .357 Mag with Federal 125gr SJHPs, two HKS speedloaders.

Ruger P95 with two hi caps of 124 Gr Speer Gold Dots. (wife's gun)

Ruger Mini-14 w/2 20 round mags of 55 gr Silvertips.

Two 4-D-cell Maglites.

I have three:

1. S&W model 625 .45ACP
2. Kimber Gold Match .45ACP
3. Colt Gold Cup (Series 80) .45ACp

Hmmmm.... I see some kind of trend here.

No particular favorite.

My nightstand (actually, a strongbox with a simplex lock NEAR my nightstand) contains a S&W4006 but depending on what part of the house I'm in when I need a weapon, it could also be a S&W4513 or S&W4013. For SERIOUS encounters (Y2K-II type situations), I'll grab my P14-45. And, of course, on my hip sits a Taurus 85UL-UC snubbie revolver as a back-up or if I can't reach any of the other weapons.

The wife: Taurus 44 special

Other goodies stashed around the house.

If the terrible time ever comes when I'll need a house gun I want ultra dependability, simplicity in operation, superb accuracy, and the gun I feel the most confidence with.
Only one choice for me:

Makarov 9X18 on the bedroom closet shelf with two loaded magazines.

I have two that I depend on and have them at two strategic locations:

1. S&W Model 457 45 ACP w/ 230 Hydrashocks

2. S&W 625 45 Colt Mountain Gun w/ 200 CorBon

My carry gun (#1 above) is also my first choice for a house gun. There is a lot to say for familiarity.

The Best Pistol Ever Built, my Glock Model 34!

Make mine lean, mean, and 9x19!

Glock model 34/35 is an excellent choice! I love mine.

But, I use a Glock model 21 .45 with 14 rounds of 200gr +P Gold Dots.

I specifically use the .45 because it has poor penetration through walls. The 9mm is more hazerdous in that regard. I think the .45 makes a good house gun because it is less deadly in the penetration of walls (hitting innocents people in the other room). For some reason, the 9mm holds the ability to penetrate walls and such very efficiently.

And, what home defense package would be complete without a mounted tactical light? I love mine. I use the M3 Insight tactical white light that mounts on the rails of my Glock 21.
Makes for a very complete home defense package...

I feel a little under-powered with the above weapons - but I'm going to get a 1911 in 45ACP soon - I promise!

Home: Ruger P89 (9mm)
(preban with 15, 20 and even a 30 rnd clips)

Carry: Glock 26 (also 9mm)
(with those cute little Pearce grip extenders for my pinkie)

Wife's: Taurus 38spl. with 4" (or so) barrel

My wife raises/trains Dobermans, and we have an 8 year old son (already shooting, of course), so we keep the guns in the safe in the closet - we figure the dogs'll keep an unlucky intruder busy while my wife or I retreat to the closet and retrieve the weapon of choice.

These are the handguns - for a what's that in the yard - we'd grab the 12 gauge pump with the flash light mounted on the barrel.
