what do you think is the most under appreciated gun on the market?

For me its the Ruger 9e. At $300 for a modent striker fired full size polymer pistol, it just offers a ton. I also think the Gen 3 smiths are an amazing deal as well.

What would you say are the most under appreciated guns on the market?

The nonexistent poly framed 25acp.
Think... 4" or less, 1/2" thick, 7 ounces loaded, micro LCP.

Everybody poopoos the 25acp, deservedly so compared to a 380 or 9mm, but I for one would carry a poly 25acp every day in my shorts pocket from May thru September.

The current Steyr line like the L-A1 and M-A1. Low recoil/muzzle flip, super comfortable grip, excellent accuracy, and very reliable. It has one of the best striker fired triggers out of the box only rivaled by the HK VP, Sig 320, and Walther PPQ. All for under 500.00 bucks. Magazines are easy to get and cheap at CDNN.

I would say the Stoeger Cougars are probably the most underrated and best for the price right now. They are essentially Beretta's that happen to be made in Turkey, and can be had for ~$300 (Academy and Gunbroker).

I don't have personal experience with the SAR options, but I've heard nothing but good things about them. Similar praise seems to be picking up steam for the Zastava CZ999, which is a Serbian Sig clone.

I would say the CZ P-07 and Sig SP2022 could be considered, but they've both gained a bit of traction and have seen price hikes as a result. Still great guns, but not necessarily the underrated/best buy status they were before.

I have heard great things about the Stoeger but have yet to get my hands on one! I am also a huge fan of the sig sp2022. If I didn't have a glock 19 filling that role already I would probably have one :)

The SIG SP2022 but demand for them have driven the price up considerably in the last year. Right now the original German made Walther PPS is a heck of a deal at under $400 if that lasts.

Those that in the past used to be good deals, are now going up considerably. In the past CZ Remi and the already mentioned Sig SP2022, Cougars used to be very good deals but they are commanding a lot more money now. Saw a new Remi for $579 which was more than the new CZ 75B. Crazy, I know.

I agree with the Walther PPS being a good deal now. It is what I carry if I don't have the LCP in my pocket. Seen it as low as $378 new on Gunbroker.

Even the Rock Island guns are getting expensive now but you can still get good deals.

I agree with triplebike, I own a SAR K2P 9mm, the SARS are underrated because they are not marketed properly. Which creates low sales, which diminishes aftermarket, which is one of the reasons people won't buy. Super comfortable grip, nicely balanced, low recoil, one stovepipe in a thousand rounds and that was in the first 20 rounds. Best of all it can be had for under 300 bucks, my one knock is that it comes with just one magazine and I had to go straight to EAA to order a second.

The Beretta PX4 line deserves mention in this category. They are very soft shooting, with a nice feel to the grip, and good accuracy, but they don't get talked about very much.

The taurus line. Great prices and everything I keep reading says their quality has gone way up the last few years and is on par with any other brand out there.

I had the same thought as most of you above.

  • Beretta PX4 deserves more attention.
  • I just bought my first 3rd Gen S&W; they are truly underrated.
  • CZ's have been under the radar until lately; think the secret is out on them finally. They can still be hard to find in local shops though.

Loved shooting my LC9S today....very affordable, concealable, reliable, and common so it is not hard to find accessories.
