What do YOU think is the "best" gun oil for lubrication?

Specifically for a 1911 or a pump shotgun? I've got a few different oils laying around including Breakfree CLP, RemOil, Otters, Hoppes Lubricating Oil, and some GunSlick stuff. Don't ask me how I wound up with all these I'm not sure myself. But with all these options which would you choose? :D

Any of those lubricants you have would work just fine for a 1911.

I took an bunch of old assorted lub's I had on the shelf and mixed them together in an old eye dropper bottle of Pachmayr Elixir. I even added a bit of synthetic ATF for color.

I have been using it on all my revolvers and pistols for a couple of years. It works great. No gumming, no dry residue build up, no mold.

I bought a small bottle of Slipstream by Crusader Weaponry after seeing Larry Correia recommend it. It certainly seems to work well on my pistols, better than whatever generic oil I used before.

I think where you lube, and how much, makes a lot more difference than what you use. Over the last thirty years, I've used G.I. oil, Break Free, Gun Butter, and some other stuff I can't remember, and they all worked fine. I've changed mostly because I can.
For the last 10+ years I've used Wilson Combat Ultimalube oil and grease. I bought an instructional video about 1911s from Wilson, and at the end there was a lube torture test featuring Ultimalube against Slick 50, and some others, so I thought, "Wow, I'll try it!", even though I didn't really have any complaints with the oil I was using.

CLPs....

It seems in the last 5/10 years, every 15min or so, some new gun oil or CLP hits the market that's the "best" or top-rated.
A few have merit but the good brands seem to gather a following or support over time.
Here are a few I would suggest or use;
Ballistol, Weaponshield, Mpro7/LPX, Gunzilla. Other newer CLPs & cleaning products include; Italian Gun Grease(IGG), Rand CLP, FrogLube.
Ballistol is like a German WD-40 :D . It's non toxic, CFC free, safe for your bare hands, and good around the house or work shop.
LPX is good for military type weapons & was in use by many US military troops in combat areas.
Rand CLP is R&Ded by a ex-LE officer(also a US special forces veteran) and made from vegetable oil. It's not cheap but the tests/media look impressive.

Gunzilla isn't as common as some CLPs like Breakfree or LPX but it's also popular with cops & armed professionals.

I'd skip all of those, and go buy something else. ;)
Or, mix them all together, and see what happens?

Kidding aside... I use FP-10.
Among other things, it works in more extreme temperatures than many other options, and doesn't dry out and get gummy over time.

:D

...Or just get some synthetic Mobil 1 motor oil and be done with it.

Course...I'm presently running synthetic Amsoil in most of mine as I got a good deal on some for the car.

I use Weaponshield. I may have got suckered by a good sales pitch but there is plenty of online testing presented which looks good. In my guns, I have had great success with it with minimal negative.

no shortage of good choices

I use Safari Charlies.

Cleans fast.
Lubes
and even smells good.

Go figure :D

Many good choices. I like Mobil 1 5W-30 fully synthetic for its lubricating properties but there are carcinogens present so that prolonged contact with skin is not recommended. I'm trying Weapon Shield (no carcinogens) and so far, so good. I just haven't done a lot of shooting recently (sigh), so don't have a real good handle on how effective it is. Breakfree CLP works well in some of my 1911s but not all of them --- it's a bit "light" for my taste.

Well now I guess I have another bottle to add to the lot... I asked this same question to an older friend G96 Gun Treatment. Said it's the best stuff he's ever tried and doesn't freeze up either. Guess I'll be giving that a shot haha
