I used to always pick up a rock or two while hiking before I got my permit and I still do. Snake, dog, some guy with a knife I feel a rock couldn't hurt my situation.
I was going to get some spray but I read some MD laws and it made it sound like any pepper spray, mace type stuff or stun gun was illegal.
The law is starting to peeve me off. I want to be legal but you can never find anything that just straight tells you what is legal and everyoe has a diff story. You ask a cop he tells you you can't carry anything because he dosen't want anyone but hom being armed and thinks if you are not a LEO you are incompetant. You ask a store or knife dealer and they tell you whatever will get you to buy the knife you are looking at. Look the law up on the net and it is like reading stereo instructions in Greek.
EnoughGun asked:which model?
I have noticed most folders are about 3in which just seems lacking to me as a defensive knife. I have been looking for something with a blade closer to 5 inches that is still useable but everthing over 4in is gigantic
I always carry a Kershaw Folder in my right front pocket, even while carrying concealed. I have the Kershaw "Groove". I especially like it when going into and leaving from work where I'm not allowed to carry. Hate to leave the 45 in the car but at least it's there for the drive home through not so good areas.
Gerber F.A.S.T Draw. Had it for 5 years, and have worked it over pretty well.
Very nice for under $40.
That said I find these days I carry a Buck Smidgen more often because I am more likely to need a bottle opener than a knife. Open beer, slice cheese.
These were the Xmas giveaways this year to the of age males, they love them.
Billed as a neck knife they have a nice clip and I got them for $9 each at Smokey Mountain Knife Works.
I have some small cannisters of bear spray and for awhile in FL I would carry one of these. Combo stun pen and flashlight. Never could find anyone who would volunteer for a test poke even after a long night at the Winghouse.
1. Surefire 6PD Flashlight which can be used as a good impact weapon
2. At least one of my knives
3. My Koga from Cold Steel which is another good impact weapon
The only thing that may restrict my ability to carry is wardrobe, for those occasions when nothing else will fit I have a Kel-tec P3AT.
Since the discussion seems to have gravitated to knives, I always carry a Benchmade HK auto. I also have a Ka-bar TDI that accompanies me a fair amount of the time.
A Kershaw "O-So-sweet" assisted open folder is part of my EDC, but I work for City Government and all City buildings are "no gun zones", so in addition to my Kershaw, I carry pepper spray.
