What do you carry when you can't have your CC pistol?

Pretty obvious question.
I have CCW permits but in MD where I live I can't carry a handgun (yay MD BAH) so I have taken to using a Kershaw folder and am thinking about adding a light.
What is your back up tool of choice?

I too have a Kershaw folder that I carry nearly everywhere. While Indiana is a free state, I can't carry a gun at work but my Kershaw stays in my right front pocket.

which model?
I have noticed most folders are about 3in which just seems lacking to me as a defensive knife. I have been looking for something with a blade closer to 5 inches that is still useable but everthing over 4in is gigantic.

Fortunately I'm not faced with any no carry areas so I stay armed all the time. (I avoid schools and courts) I carry a folder at all times as well.

BTW, anything with a blade over 3" in length is illegal in almost all states.

3"
Really?!!

I believe 5" is the magic number in most states. At least the good ones
that are red on the map.

A nice folder is what I like to have on me. I like the S&W
SWAT series.

Benchmade 610 Rukus. 4.25 inches of badass folding knife blade backed by a grip with a striking point that sticks out from the end of your hand. A deep carry pocket clip and one of the fastest operating and toughest locks ever made are on this thing too.

I carry as an EDC a Benchmade produce knife for Bradley Cutlery the Allias II in S30v and TI frame lock. Also as a EDC neck knife thats a demascus blade with para cord wrap on a kydex necklace.

But have a BM 3550 auto i rarely carry due to legality, But its great in the garden when my hands are full and just hit a button to open the blade.
I have a BM 885 Darkstar i carry on occasion.

In reality if i cant carry my pistol somewhere they wont like my knives either, other than that i don't take either off.

Here is a pic of all my EDC items.

I think Montana is 3.5"?

I just carry a schrade folding knife, 3.5" blade. Not the best, and slower tog et out than some, but...

I don't plan on getting into a knife fight. The way I look at it, if they're bad guys, committing a crime in a gun free zone.....they've probably got a gun.

Love that 610 Rukus Boats...might have to look at one of those.

I used to have quite a bit of pocket knives but recently got rid of the ones I never used. It came down to these two for me as I couldn't choose between them. I like both equally as they're lightweight and small but still sturdy enough for everyday use. I really liked my auto Benchmade but had to leave it in NC when I moved back to TX as the state of TX says I can't have it. :(

I usually carry a kershaw speedbump with the flat black scales. Its not bulky and is assisted but I feel the blade is about the minimum I would carry at just under 4 inches. I wish I could find something 5 inch that was as comfortable

P.O.

Living in Florida there aren't many occasions where one with a license can not carry.
PA is similar but...ever go to the Post Office?
Do you take your gun off before you go in? I've always wondered what people do in that case.... or if they even give it a thought.
Knives - I always have a knife of some sort on my person if I am up and about. Sometimes it's a Spyderco Police model, right now it's a Benchmade folder about 4". Sometimes it's just a Schrade Old Timer or a Barlow.

I'm in and out of the court house all the time (for work reasons). Being that I'm not LE I cant carry- Even though head of CH security told me he wouldn't do anything about it if I did. I carry a Gerber EVO with a 3.5" blade. I live in NC and was told by the Sheriff to lay the blade of a knife across the palm of my hand. If the blade is the same size or smaller than my palm its legal. Otherwise its considered a concealed weapon. If you want something bigger then carry it in a case on your belt. If it's in plain view the it's not concealed and is perfectly legal.

another kershaw carrier

i used to carry one of 3 crkt M16 variants but after they stopped holding an edge now i carry a kershaw vapor or leek.typically that blade is for people not things.

my things blade as of late is a eddie bauer branded victorinox. it was cheap and if i destroy it i wont feel as bad as if i ruin my leek/ vapor

Pretty much no matter where I go, I always have my knife on me. Its just too useful of a tool to be without, and can double as a defensive object if needbe.

Sadly, I find myself unable to carry my firearm much now, since returning to school. Apparently walking onto a college campus makes me reckless and incapable of being trusted with the firearm that I have most everywhere else. As such, I can't carry at all, since I have to run to and from campus and work everyday. Hopefully John Q Badguy is nice enough to only try something on the weekends :/ (if at all, of course.)

You won't find me without my knife, unless there is some serious security check, though. Hey, its a tool, not a weapon. No more dangerous than the pen with which I take notes.

But most of all, I still get to keep my best defense, my brain.

Mine is a Kershaw Tanto Blur assisted opener. I believe that the blade is roughly 3" long. Anything much longer than that is really just to big for a pocket knife. If I wanted to carry a longer knife, I'd probably look at a fixed blade model.

BTW, anything with a blade over 3" in length is illegal in almost all states.

While I've been unable to actually find the law to verify it, everyone I talk to tells me that Indiana's maximum blade length is 6".

Edit: after a quick Google search, I've been unable to find any defined maximum length in Indiana.

Usually have a knife or two. Sometimes if I'm dressed up I have a walking stick/cane the core of which is actually .75" steel pipe.

Need to get in the habit of using my cane, too.

I don't carry your over-hyped "combat knife" or quasi-tactical blade. You're better off seeking a good quality alloy, a good sturdy handle, a strong pivot and a knowledgeable sharpener/sharpening system. Yikes, you have no idea on how much unmitigated crap is visited apon the consumer.

I carry knives for tools. My Spin is about 1.3 inches long and my Graham Brothers Stubby is at 1.5 inches.

But I have the same needs in safety and security that you do. And most truly deadly confrontations occur within arms' reach.

I carry a 26" hard-chromed ASP.
