What do you carry and why

When guns are outlawed, I will be an outlaw.

Anyone that has been here very long already knows I carry a 6" "N" frame Smith and have for over twenty years. I carry between 18 and 30 rounds of spare ammo depending on if I grab the speed loaders before going out or just the "ammo pack". In the last twenty years I've tried every concealment holster/rig on the market with varying degrees of comfort. While at the Tulsa show some three weeks ago I tried a new concealment rig similar to a Bellyband, which I don't care for, but with numerious improvements. After wearing it for the last three weeks I have became so impressed with it that Terridarri and I have just became the Missouri/Kansas distributors for them. This thing would comfortably conceal a Desert Eagle! All my custom built rigs and "whiz-bang-trick-of-the-month-rigs" are now shoved in the bottom of the gun cabinet where they will stay.
How's that for a shameless plug? :o

70 Series Colt .45 LWT Commander fall/winter.
Makarov 9X18 or AMT SA .380 spring/summer.

Would carry my Glock 23 all the time if I could get it away from my wife!

HK P7 with one reload.

Used to have a shotgun and a rifle in the pick-up, but... ;)

Why? Because my 30mm Chaingun has been on backorder for 15 years. :D

5.45" blade length, 12" overall when open. I own and carry serial number ONE because I convinced REKAT to build a megafolder for the Calif market. See also: http://www.rekat.com/sifu.html

Why?

Because this screwed-up mess we sometimes refer to as "California" has the worst CCW system concievable, but we can pack any length folding knife concealed.

My *second* lawsuit against my Sheriff re: CCW will be starting up again within a month or two.

I'm jealous, reading these replies you all are lucky to be able to carry. There are certain places I have to avoid because I have nothing with me but the pepper spray, if I could carry I would feel much better, especially at night.

Knife shopping it is! :)

Assuming that some idiotic local law or ordinance doesn't prohibit them, you're "golden" as far as Black Talons are concerned.

Black Talons were designed to meet FBI standards, so a plaintiff's lawyer will be hard pressed to claim they are "proof" of a murderous intent. "Gee, I bought them because I heard the FBI thought they worked well."

Black Talons have been proven to do no more damage than conventional hollowpoints (sorry Winchester, it's the truth. Those talons are a nice gimmick but they don't really do anything.) So, the "deadlier than average" theory won't work.

Finally, Black Talons have less energy than most popular .40 rounds (i.e. Silvertips, 135 gr Corbons). So, you can show that you didn't go for the most powerful thing you could find, which might sway the jury. (Note: I carry Silvertips or Corbon myself in my 229 on the theory that if I have to "perform the indicated response" as Ayoob says, I want them down NOW! I'll explain to the jury that by eliminating the threat quickly, I can not only safeguard my own life, but get medical attention to the perp that much faster).

Here's a strategy for dealing with the bullet design issue:

1. TODAY, think about why you chose that round. Come up with good reasons for this round as opposed to others. If you can't other than the "gee, it looks vicious", get rid of it and find a better round. Then, document your search and keep the articles you analyzed. That'll support you later on.

2. depose the manufacturer and the designer. No way in hell either of them will say that the design is more dangerous than most, no matter what the advertisements say. They'll drop that claim like a hot potato ("gee, my design is certainly no more dangerous than your average bullet so please don't think about suing me for designing an ultrahazardous product, Mr. Plaintiff's Lawyer/Legal Prostitute/Scumbag")

3. have your attorney file a Motion in Limine to bar any arguments as to the design of the bullet. The question is intent and standard of care. Even if the claim is an accidental discharge, the bullet design has nothing to do with it.

4. trust the jury to have a little common sense and play it straight with them.

Sorry for the long post but I thought this might help.

What....686-1 2.5" in Galco SIL 104 just behind hip point right side. Loose sport shirt or sport coat covers well. Two speed loaders in dump boxes left rear, two speed strips left rear pocket. CorBon 125 .357. Like the retention of night vision due to colour and low intensity of flash with the CorBon.
Why carry, cause I can, insurance, been doin so for over thirty years ( concealed ); bout fifty years total carry.
Why the short 686, cause I am a little feller with small hands and body, it is the most stopping ability I have found that will conceal and handle well for me. I do live drills twice a week and dry practice at odd times. Try to do night work at least once/month. I am old and can't see so well so have to practice a lot. Can get mouth or throat hit out to 15yds consistantly from concealed with reasonable speed. Drop cane, flip clothing, pop perp, go for cover.

Nikita Khrushchev!." We cannot expect the Americans to jump from capitalism to communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism, until they suddenly awake to find they have communism."

"Always gun"-Ruger SP101 .357 DAO 2.25" barrel, loaded with Remington 125gr SJHP...2 speed strips of the same mininum, speedloaders optional.

More serious carry-1911 loaded with Federal 230gr Hydra-shoks...minimum of 2 spare mags.

When I know I have trouble at hand-the nearest rifle or shotgun.

Primary Carry gun: 90% of the time is my Glock 29, Glaser Silver in the chamber, 10 rounds of CorBon 135gr in the mag. (Carrying in the gun store overpenetration is a concern: It is considered bad form to perforate the BG and hit a customer, also it cuts down on repeat business) Backup mag is a G20 15 rounder full of Silvertips. (If I'm one mag change into a gunfight, suddenly I'm more worried about survival than overpenetration). Other times my G23C or G33.

Always Gun: Beretta 3032 Tomcat, PPS 40gr solid copper MPP in the chamber, mag full of Silvertips...

Up until the start of this month I would have said "Walther P99". However when S&W caved in to the Klinton's, I got to thinking. Walther just allied itself with S&W, I support the S&W boycott, so why am I carrying a P99?
I was confused for a while. During this state of confusion, I started thinking about, and GOD FORBID, actually LOOKING at GLOCKS!!
eek.gif
Then my birthday rolled around. A friend of mine offered to buy me a new gun. Well, there we were, in the gun store. Those Glocks were just calling to me from inside the case. Beguiling me from beyond the glass. Before I knew it, several of them were actually out of the case and laying in front of me. The spell was cast, I was hooked, and God help me I chose the Glock 26. This is what I now carry. The little beast (I am still not fully cognizant of what has just happened, but I'll get used to it.) fits perfectly in my pocket. It fits my hand well too. I am getting used to the trigger, and can shoot it almost as well as my other 9MM's. I think that this will be my new summer time carry pistol.

BOYCOTT SMITH AND WESSON!!!
Defend the Constitution from the foreign threat!!!!

I routinely carry a P-32 loaded with FN hardball, my Nextel i700+ (milspec for shock resistance) radio/phone/internet-capable device, and a Spyderco Native.

Why?
1) Because I can, and feel it's my duty.
2) Because I'm not expecting trouble.

If I were expecting trouble, I would likely be wearing my Glock 24, with two 15-round reloads of Mullin's-loaded 155-XTP's, and carrying a Mossberg 500 or M1 Carbine, and backed by friends that will bleed and die with me, but not if we see them first.

I am ashamed to say I carry a S&W. However, I have carried it for over 6 years so it was purchased long before their Benedict Arnold act.

Anyway, I carry a S&W 908 with a spare clip. On those days when I have to 'dress-up' the Smith is just too heavy, so recently I've purchased a Kal Tec-P32. I carry Corbon HollowPoints in both guns. I use and in-the-pant holster and NEVER have it in my purse. Don't want those Tic-Tacs up the barrel, ya know.

Most of the time, a Colt Lightweight Commander, MMC fixed sights, trigger job, in a Kramer Proline strong side holster. WW 185 gr. Silvertips. One extra 8 round mag in pouch. Once it's too hot to wear anything but tee shirts and jeans.......

ALWAYS, a Mdl. 60 Smith in a Sparks pocket holster, with six extra rounds in a Bianci Speed Strip. J.B.

Why do I carry a gun?
1. See Constitution of the US, Amendment II. Because I can.
2. Because I feel it's my duty as an honest, law-abiding, God-fearing and morally forthright human being to defend not only my life, but the lives of those people I spend my days & nights with from the scum of the Earth who would seek them as prey.
3. It puts me in a more attentive-to-detail frame of mind.
4. To be quite honest, I like it.
I may feel differently if the day comes I have to use my weapon against another human being, but somehow I doubt that very seriously.

What do I carry?
Most prefered:
SIG P229 .40, SOB in a Fobus (cheap) paddle holster I rigged up to ride IWB.
Loaded with factory 12rd mag w/15gr Federal HydraShok JHP and 1 or 2 factory 10rd'ers.
Why do I carry this?
I LOVE THIS PISTOL! Ballistics, capacity, size, feel, contolability...I trust this gun more than anything else in the house (don't tell the wife
wink.gif
).

Most often:
Kel-Tec P11 9mm, either in my homemade 'organizer' or IWB rear strongside (rare, haven't got a good rig yet so I use the beltclip). I still need to get do the trigger job on it.
Loaded with factory 10rd mag w/124gr Federal HydraShok JHP and 1 or 2 17rd Ramline S&W 59 Series mags with homemade bike-tube gtip extensions.
Why do I carry this?
Concealability. When I got my SIG, carring at work wasn't a problem. Then that bonehead in Ft. Worth flipped out in a church (8 miles from work) and all of a sudden, employees with guns was a problem ('Bass-ackward idiots like you are the prob, boss!'). The SIG was just too much gun for real concealment outside always wearing a jacket or giving up space in my already crowded laptop bag (and this wouldn't work too well anyway). About this time a friend in AZ was getting ready to sell his P11 (after about 200 rds) to get cash for a Baby Eagle. So I got it with the belt clip, 2 factory mags, NiteSites and the boss organizer for $250.
Not a bad gun overall. Only stovepiped twice in 1300+ rds. The trigger's a little stiff and sharp, but I'll get to fixing that soon enough.

As soon as I can afford it I want to get a Horseshoe Leather SBU2 setup for IWB for both of my CCW's.

And I will never be ashamed to say I carry a Smith & Wesson. They made d@mn fine guns. I have a Mod 29 and twin 66's that I will never sell. Cr@ppy company and I hope they burn in He11, but they made d@mn fine guns.

I personally carry for the very unlikely possiblity that I would need a gun to defend my wife and/or myself. I would still avoid 'bad' parts of town even if I were carrying a gun.
