What did Uncle Sam teach you to shoot?

M14, 1911A1, M60, LAAW, M16, 3.5 Rocket Launcher, M79.

Was trained early in life by my Grandfather, a WWI rifle and machine gun instructor. That training served me well in the USMC.

What I didn't get to shoot and would have loved to shoot are:
BAR, Thompson, M3.

M16 - basic training, spring 1969
Colt Detective Special - MI school, Ft. Holabird, MD, summer 1969
Carried at various times while assigned to 525th MI Group in Vietnam and 902 MI Group in Virginia: M16, Colt Detective Special, Winchester 1897, and Colt 1911.

Technically, Uncle Sam didn't teach me how to shoot any firearm. I had already been shooting and hunting for roughly 15 years before my employment in the U.S. Army.

I trained on others but these are the weapons systems I actually fired, disassembled, cleaned and reassembled on multiple occasions. My weapons systems used in country are marked with an *. I have to say the Ma Deuce is my favorite, this weapon has stood the test of time and has seen few changes. The M2 has served in wartime with my Great-Grandfather (WWII) Grandfather (Korea) my Uncle (Vietnam) and now me (Afghanistan). Four generations and Four actions, now that's an awesome weapon.

I would like to add Thanks to all my BIA's before me and after, you guy are why I signed the dotted line.

The Air Force, 1959-1963, never taught me how to shoot. Fortunately I already was firearms experienced.
Two years out of four I qualified with an M1 .30 cal. carbine. The other two the NCO cheated and entered scores we never shot.

Rifleman- I hear those stories a lot from former AF people. Most units I have been in that deploy bringing AF people with them require that the AF qualify on the Army range.

It is what it is !!!

I think this statement would also hold true for most Navy vets. Guess they figure that ammo was wasted on us. Now, my brother was an air police-man and he got more training but not much more. He liked being a cop but doesn't care for guns all that much. .... ;)

Be Safe !!!

Navy....

Active duty:
1911. In boot camp. Never touched another gun.

As a civilian employee:
.50 BMG Mann barrel systems.
SASR (.50 BMG)
40 mm frag guns.
50 mm 2SLGG.
19" bore transonic impact gun (well, I designed that gun so I guess I taught Uncle Sam how on that one).
And all sorts of exciting stuff that is classified as "1.1 materials."

Uncle Sam

I had an Uncle Sam Poole. He was my godfather and my Dad's boss, most likely not the Uncle you mean.
I had no military training, Uncle Sam wouldn't have me.
I still enjoy shooting my M1 rifle.
