What centerfire handguns have a .22LR counterpart?

Hello CarbineCaleb

The Model 617 and 686 are danged close that's for sure,,,
I looked them up on the S&W website,,,
Here's what I found.

The 617 is a K-frame, 9.13" long, at 38.9 oz.
The 686 is an L-frame, 9.56" long, at 39.7 oz.

Close enough to be a good practice pair I would say.

.

Yea, it is ashame on the Mosquito. I want to get one but I just don't think I could stomach a gun that will only shoot 1 or 2 types of ammo. I'd be OK if it just couldn't shoot the really cheap bulk stuff (like my 22A) but this is too picky. I keep waiting to see if they fix it but all I see is the same reports. Sure is a great looking and feeling 22, leaves me bummed.

The Ruger sp101 has been put out in .38/.357, and .22 lr versions.

The Colt Single Action Army is in every centerfire caliber under the sun. They also put out the frontier scout in .22 lr.

Also, the Buckmark and Ruger 22/45 are designed to be close to a 1911 although they are not identical.

Thanks MrAcheson,,,

I had completely overlooked the SP-101,,,
And I have feelers out all over the place for a .22LR version.

The last one I saw was on a referral from someone here,,,
It was already at an auction price of $600.00,,,
A tad bit too rich for my blood.

Did Colt make a full size SAA chambered in .22LR?,,,
I've never seen one in that chambering,,,
But there's a lot I've never seen.

Thanks for your input,,,
I'll add the SP-101 to the list.

.

SIG P220--------P220 Classic 22
SIG P226--------P226 Classic 22 (I own one of these)
SIG P229--------P229 Classic 22

These are not Mosquitos but rather aluminum centerfire frames with .22lr conversions installed.

Thanks Microgunner,,,

Wow,,,
What a concept.

Be sure to check out the new SIG SAUER X-CHANGE Kit™ is the perfect accessory for your SIG SAUER Classic .22 rimfire pistols. Now shooters can add SIG SAUER centerfire performance with just the change out of the slide assembly, barrel, recoil system, and magazine to the standard .45 caliber production pistol. Exchanging components does not alter the reliability or accuracy of either assembly.

Am I reading this correctly?,,,
A .22LR pistol that converts to a centerfire cartridge?

Isn't that backwards?

But thanks for the heads up Microgunner,,,
I'll add these to the list.

.

There are more centerfire/.22 pairs than I thought,,,

Keep em coming though guys,,,
And list any conversion kits as well,,,
Let's make the definitive list for rimfire lovers.

.

Walther PP and PPk in .32, .380, and .22, rare in .25 ACP
HK 4
Walther GSP in .32 and .22
Hämmerli 280 in .32 and .22
Beretta 70/71/87
Colt Officer Model Match
Korth revolvers
Manurhin MR73
Erma ESP85
Hämmerli P240, .22 and .32

Luger 08, Erma made a .22 conversion for it
SIG made a conversion for the P210 but I don't think that they sold dedicated rimfire guns,
same for the Walther P38

These two are pretty close, but you may have them listed.

Smith & Wesson Model 10-5. 38 Special. 5" barrel fixed sights.

Hello PzGren,,,

Thanks for that list-o-pistols,,,
I would never have found those target style pistols.

That little Beretta is absolutely a James Bond pistol,,,
I want a pair of those.

The list just keeps getting better and better.

.

Guess how I know about the Beretta? If you ever come across one, get it. But better get it with extra mags because they cost over $125 each, if you can find them at all.

Hello Spacecoast and PzGren

Man, thanks for the heads-up on the Model 45 Spacecoast,,,
I'm trying to get in contact but I'm afraid it will go for more than I can afford,,,
I'm single and have disposable money but I'm also rebuilding a small house at this time.

I have that exact model of 629,,,
I don't have a Model 63 like that though,,,
I've always thought the gun companies should market more paired sets like that.

I have considered getting a Model 617 to go with the 629,,,
But since they weren't exact matches, it became a low priority.

Having Obsessive Compulsive tendencies can be a real bitch some days,,, :D

Hey PzGren,,,

I went to Gunbroker and found 3-4 of the Model 70's,,,
They weren't going for too awfully bad a price,,,
There wasn't a Model 71 listed for sale.

But now I have something else to put on the "look for at the gunshows" list.

My Evil Pawn Shop Guy knows all too well that I'm fond of centerfire/22LR pairs,,,
I innocently walked into his Den of Temptations a couple of weeks ago,,,
There, sitting invitingly under the glass, was a new Beretta 85,,,
He knows I plan to get a Model 87 someday soon,,,
I hate him, I really do, 'cause he's evil!

Not like I need another gun or pair of guns,,,
I guess I'm either a collector or a hoarder as a hobby,,,
Either way there will be some happy people in my will when I kick the bucket.

Later my friends,,,

Aarond

Aaron,

I have had a load of rimfire handguns and that little Beretta's reliability was unequaled! If you can get a model 87 for a reasonable price, do not pass it and let somebody else enjoy the gun instead.;)

1911 and Glock conversion kits,,,

Here is a place that sell conversion kits for 1911's and Glocks,,,
Advantage Arms.

I'll go ahead and add them to the list,,,
Does anyone have one of these conversion kits?

How about a review for the rest of us.

.

Beretta Model 87,,,

Several months back I got to shoot a few mags through one,,,
I fell in love with that fine Italian lady,,,
Dang pricey gun though.

I borrowed a description from another member,,,
"The Beretta 87 feels like a real pistol that just happens to be chambered in .22 LR."

I had about talked myself into getting one when I got to shoot a 9mm CZ-75B,,,
I had been thinking I would get one quality semi-auto as a range toy,,,
Then I found out they made the Kadet .22LR that was identical,,,
I ended up buying them both as a matched set instead.

Both pistols have been flawless performers,,,
The Kadet is digesting everything from CC_ Mini-Mags to Federal Bulk Pack.

I gave them Czech names of Tmava Zena and Mala Sestra,,,
Yes I am one of those "name my guns" guys
Means Dark Woman and Little Sister.

These I had to put on my "gun only" credit card,,,
As soon as they are paid off I'm thinking a new Model 87,,,
Then I'll look for a nice used Model 85 to finish out the matched set.

.

Did Colt make a full size SAA chambered in .22LR?,,,
I've never seen one in that chambering,,,
But there's a lot I've never seen.
Yes, and IIRC they were also made in .22 Short and .22 Long.

Basically, if a rimmed pistol cartridge was commercially available in the USA prior to 1940, Colt made at least a handful of SAAs chambered for it. :)

Aaron,

those CZs are nice. When you have the Berettas finally paid off, may I recommend a pair of Walther PPs?:D That is my rimfire, I sold the .32 a few years ago since I do not reload that calibre and the ammo is pricey.
