Ive always seen the debates/threads about what caliber should I get to start out. I havent seen a thread yet about what your first caliber handgun actually was,,Hopefully this one hadnt been covered and I missed it. I surely didnt start out with a .22,,nor a 9mm,,not even a .40. My first handgun close to three decades ago was a Black Desert Eagle .44 mag. (that was back when they were only 700 bucks for a new one)

I'm not sure. When I was in the army in Germany in the 1960s, I bought three guns and I don't remember which was first. I had a C96 Mauser, a Luger and a Browning HP. The Browning was 9mm and the Mauser was .30 Mauser but I'm just guessing that the Luger was 9mm. I never owned a .45 until about 20 years ago but since then I've owned about a dozen. The first NEW handgun I bought was another Browning HP.

Leftover WW2 1911, . . . .45ACP, . . . bought off the streets of Saigon, 1966.

Did they make anything besides it and the SAA .45LC then, . . . :D

May God bless,
Dwight

The first real handgun of any type was a .44 cap and ball Colt knockoff when I was 14. Still have it. The first cartridge handgun I ever bought was a 4" blue Colt Trooper MKIII in .357 magnum. A police trade in. I wish I had it still, that was just a great pistol. The first issue handgun was a 4" blue Smith and Wesson Model 15 Combat Masterpiece in .38 Special. I carried it in a Jordan holster with Pachmayer grips. I likely just misspelled Pachmayer, but it is early.

My first handgun close to three decades ago was a Black Desert Eagle .44 mag.

Mine was a little more practical. a Taurus 66 in .38/.357, bought new in the late 1980s, traded off 3 or 4 years ago.

9mm Luger given to me right after WWII by my uncle who brought it back from the war. He killed a German and acquired it then. I gave it back because I was too small to handle the toggle. As I recall, no adult seemed concerned about safety and I was never given instructions on use.....or misuse.

My 1st handgun(s)...

In truth my 1st handgun was a old .32 Colt or maybe a .32acp caliber Colt revolver(blue steel, 4" barrel). It was my great-unkle's and was a LE trade-in from the Youngstown Ohio PD. ;)
I never shot it and later sold it to a gun shop in Charlottesville VA for $75.00 smackeroos. About a week later a local PD offered to buy working guns for $100ea! D'oh!!!
The 1st handgun I bought was in 11/1993. It was a slick little NIB Ruger SP101 .357magnum DA-only. I did not keep the little wheelgun long but it was great for protection, marksmanship training. I debated between a new SP101 and a Ruger P-93DAonly 9x19mm stainless pistol.
I would suggest the snub SP101 DAO to any new handgun owner or entry level shooter. ;)

A true saturday Night Special was my first handgun purchase,,,

It shoots .22 shorts only,,,

I had forgotten I still owned the gun,,,
I recently found it in a box of my old per-service stuff,,,
That has been packed away since 1970 when I entered Basic Training.

my first handgun was a 22 semi auto. the 22 should be everyones first caliber, and after adding all the other calibers should still be a favorite.

-first handgun gift - Baretta 92F (I was going back on active duty, it was a commisioning present from my mom) 9mm, obviously
