What ammo do you use in your 9mm carry gun?

critical defense is much better than critical duty, especially out of short barrel 9mm's. I don't really know why they still make both. except for possibly duty I cheaper to make.

I handload mine, 147gr hornaday xtp and hornaday 90gr xtp with hs-6. unfortunately, I don't think hornday sells flex-tip to the public, only xtp, at least I haven't seen any

I personally use Speer Gold Dot 124gr JHP, sometimes in +p sometimes not. I chose it because it is the duty round of my local police department. If ever I use my ammo, god forbid, I want the maximum level of legal insulation. For example, 147gr Black Talon ammunition sounds like it'll be equally effective when used by a poor grieving family's lawyer arguing you are a murderer. I live in the pacific northwest where guns and self defense are not necessarily something my community is very comfortable with, the thought makes most people squeamish.

I have a sig p6 loaded with 3 mags 115 grain fmj. Federal Its not my normal carry pistol (s&w m&P). But it's utterly reliable and I would use it in a self defence scenario if had to anytime. Plus any one of my family members can pick it up and use it as they have fired the same type ammo hundreds of time in practice.

Would you mind expanding on why you believe this?

Carry ammo

I've carried just about everything at one time or another over the past 20 years....i seem to prefer the 147gr as recoil is not as snappy, which allows me to get back on target quicker.
As for those in other countries where HP's are a no-no don't feel under gunned. I've also carried hand loaded Montana Gold CMJ's 147gr with a max charge of HS-6. I guarantee these big blunt buggers would put a whoopin on any bad guy.
There's a lot of good choices these days, i couldn't name them all without leaving someone's favorite out. I like standard pressure 147gr HST's, and also the 135gr Critical Duty.

What is it that you like better about the Defense over the Duty?

147 HST, standard pressure

I prefer excellent expansion with enough penetration, and this load passes the FBI tests. Some people prefer better penetration with controlled expansion.

Like in other calibers I usually have several carry options, it's mostly:

115gr +P+ Federal 9BPLE or 115gr Gold Dot +P+

124gr +P Speer Gold Dot, Rem Golden Sabre or Winchester Ranger (or PDX1)

147gr Federal HST or Winchester Ranger T

Hornady Critical Defense and Winchester SXS. The Winchester stuff is just a remake of the infamous "Black Talon", and works just fine.

It's really cold right now so I'm using Winchester 147gr PDX1 with my SR9C. In the warmer months, I use Federal 124gr HSTs.

In no particular order:

Gold Dots
Golden Sabers
Federal HST

But I honestly think that any top shelf hollow point will serve just about equally well.
