what .22 lr pistol would you buy your significant other?

My DW loves my MKII. So I'd probably buy her a 22/45 lite, or a MKIII Standard or Target.

tough decision....of course 22 ammo would have to start showing up at "normal" prices before I'd buy any new 22's. The 10 or 11 I have now haven't been shot much in a few years.

I think I would gift either a Browning 1911-22 or the BERSA .22, they aren't target pistols, but they're a lot of fun to shoot and not something you see at the range too often(I don't anyway).

I forgot to mention, Browning is offering a $25.00 rebate on all buckmark and 1911-22 pistols purchased before June 30th.

I'm going to give the rebate to her to help fund the purchase of extra magazines.:D

There are only two 22 semi's I'd consider. A Ruger MK anything, and a Browning Buckmark.

But she's never met a 22 rifle or handgun she didn't like. Neither have I.

The Buckmark is an awesome pistol, and WAY easier than a Ruger Mark series to field-strip ;)

Walt Sherrill was also very correct about the Keltec PMR-30, only downside is they're hard to get,
and almost impossible to find under the MSRP since dang near every gun dealer is gouging on them...
and WMR ammo is still a little scarce in some states...
but the pistol itself is so much fun that a bit of headache is worth it ;)

The question is "What .22 lr pistol would YOU buy YOUR significant other."
I wouldn't pick anything for her, although I would gladly pay for anything she wanted.

The point is people need to pick their own guns, and especially handguns because they need to fit each individual.

By asking here you learned what many others like but still nothing about what is better for your wife

She likes the buckmark, she wanted to buy one but didn't and ended up regretting it. I'm buying her the same one she wanted just in a different color. So really she is the one that made the decision, I'm just giving her the final push by buying it for her since I know she will never want to spend the money on it herself.

I wish someone would buy me a gun that I once said I would like to have but didn't buy... I really think this is a little simpler than some of you are making it out to be.

As far as my question about what .22lr you might buy your significant other, it could be for just about any reason... maybe it's what you want them to have, maybe it's something they have always wanted, maybe it's something you think they'll like... in the end it's going to be a surprise, not everyone likes surprises, and sometimes people wish they had ended up with something else.

But I'm feeling lucky and I'll let you all know if she loves it, just likes it, or hates it:D

Good choice buying the Buckmark. Before I read that you had already made your choice I was going to say my Son just bought his wife a Beretta Neos, and she loves it! Not my preference though. They look too much like what I had when I was a kid that said Buck Rogers on it and squirted water out the end when you pulled the trigger.:D

The one I chose was a Ruger Mk I Target (with the long skinny barrel), 30+ years ago. Wife is not a serious gun person, but did plink with us sometimes, and she liked it, so it was hers.

I've probably used it 10x for every time she has, if not more, but its her gun, and I just borrow it (with permission).

And, yes, the Ruger is a pain to field strip, but so what? 30+ years and hers has been stripped TWICE, and the second time was by the son in law, is nowhere near as smart as he thinks he is, and did it against CLEAR, SPECIFIC instructions not to do so.

Much chastened daughter returned the gun, after numerous requests, all the parts (thank goodness) in a grocery bag. I got it back together and its fine but I shouldn't have had to do it. (and this was BEFORE the Internet and all its helpful advice).

Unless the gun gets dunked, there is no need to take it down to clean it. And if it does get soaked there are ways to completely successfully clean and preserve it without having to detail strip the gun.

I firmly believe the Ruger was never intended to be treated like a GI service pistol, but like the sporting pistol it is. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, and if you don't need to take it apart, don't. It really is that simple.

If I were going to do it again, I might go for the Ruger Mk II, if she had an interest in one. If she likes the Buckmark, get her a Buckmark. IF she wants one, get her a Luger, or anything else. If that's not just the right thing, get her something else, she'll let you know how happy she is, or isn't.;)

One of our "rules" has been, things you need can be gifts, but they are not presents. For instance, one cannot give my wife new tires for her truck for her birthday, and have it "count". (wife was kind enough to give me the heads up on that, before I dug that particular hole..:D)

If you've got a spouse/GF that would understand, and enjoy a gun as a present, by all means, do it!. Even if it makes no sense to you, which gun.

And just FTW, my wife's (self chosen) home defense gun is a double barrel 12ga coach gun. No, I didn't argue, not at all. :D

Great choice! I have a Buck Mark and love it. It is the most accurate handgun I have ever owned. It's my daughter's favorite.

My wife owns the following semi-autos in .22LR. A Walther P22, a Ruger SR22, and a Browning Buckmark.

Her favorite is the Buckmark, but she's enjoyed shooting the others as well. The P22 has had some problems and I'm not that I would recommend it but it is a lot of fun when it's working.

Her Buckmark has the thin profile barrel. I originally purchased it for her because she complained about the weight of my .22LR pistols which had heavier profile barrels.

Ruger Mk II/III or 22-45. They're accurate, reliable and they're cool-looking as well. The only drawback is that they're hell to fieldstrip for cleaning but you might be surprised how ladies are actually way more patient than we are.

Ain't that the truth? It's just a gun, not a kidney.

So what if it turns out she doesn't like it? Sell it, or trade it and get something else.

I did say what i would do, get the one she had expressed the most interest in.

However, my wife does not normally go with me to shops or shows. When she wants a gun, we go, and she picks it. If i think she is picking a pos, i say something. Other than that, i pretty much stay out of the way.
Her first pick, many years ago, was a gp 100 4". Later, an old 12 side by side she wanted me to restore to shooting condition. Just after, an old model vaquero stainless in 357.
I recently built an ar for her and our daughter, but they specd it out.

Yup. I offer advice but the decision is hers. The Buckmark, on the other hand, I bought for her as a gift based on comments she had made about what she did and didn't like about some of my pistols she had shot. I must have been listening well... :D

I'd go with one they have already shot and liked, or get a gift certificate for when they find the one they like.

Ones I'd suggest looking at:
Ruger Mk series
Browning Buckmark
S&W 41
Walter P22
S&W M&P 22
Beretta Neos
1911 in .22LR
S&W Revolver in .22LR (pick a fame/barrel)

OP, you did fine getting her what she and you already knew that she liked, and a quality pistol.

just bought his wife a Beretta Neos, and she loves it!

For someone starting from scratch, the Neos deserves more consideration than it often gets. If you can get past the styling, you get a pistol that is accurate, extremely reliable, and easy to take down and clean. The grip is quite slender, so it is comfortable for kids, small ladies, and others with small hands, but still oddly comfortable for a lot of folks with big hands. My Neos is quite popular with my family and friends.

I just picked up a Pt-22. It's my first 22lr pistol and I just wanted a 22lr toy for the range. I've always heard mixed reviews on the Taurus products but I was pleasantly surprised by the build quality of this thing. I'm taking it to the range for the first time in a couple of days and I'm hoping it shoots as well as it looks. Trigger seems a bit heavy but do-able.
