Western States 1999 Round Up - Final Chapter

Well seeing how were only 2 weeks away how many of us are still going? Is everyone on Ewoks list still able to attend? Also do you want me to bring a BBQ or is the fire danger a problem?

I'm still up for it.

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE

Axiously awaiting the day... What time is everyone planning on being there? Can someone re-post the directions? Hotel rooms where everyone is going to stay? Who is in charge of putting this together or is it ad hoc? Besides of lots of ammo, anything else I need to bring?

Oh by the way... my wife has never shot a shotgun... so I'm bringing my 12ga with some lowbase shells... she's been thinking about going pheasant hunting with me this fall. But wants to make sure that she can shoot a shot gun without knocking her shoulder off first. Her one concern with shooting it at the TFL shoot was all the advise she would get from everyone. Does not like to have 200 people staring at her telling her everything she does wrong. I have assured her that everone here is not like that, that they are good people with good intentions. It's the typical fear of being ridiculed before a whole bunch of people... She used to be a security guard once upon a time and had her CCW and is good with a 357/38. Any suggestions as how we can set this up so she looks like a crack shot with the shotgun? Oh and I will run over the saftey rules for handling a long-gun prior to us showing up.

Thanks,

Painful as it is, I'm not going to be able to attend. The whole thing was contingent on my previously scheduled Disneyland trip for my kids. To make a long story short, work postponed the Disney trip a few days, and now I'll be in Anaheim that weekend.

Pop off a few for me, as I'll be thinking of you all. :)

I have been shuffeling a trip to Singapore - Work related trying as I may to make it at another time. So far, so good.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE

I'll be there for sure, along with my whole department at work (well, I think so), my daughter and a couple of friends. It's my regular range anyway...

Directions can be found at the 001089.html link posted above for those that didn't grab am first time around.

Fire danger is still an issue. They are billing people for the Fire Dept turn out. Saw where a fire was started by a construction crew yesterday - They hit a rock with a backhoe and created a SPARK that toasted a hill in a residential area of Reno. I think we should use a designated area for fires or BBQ and avoid TRACER rounds.

Davis Creek is a nice area to camp in. Located at the base of the Sierras with Washoe lake stretched out before you... Hey! Maybe I will camp that weekend too! What the heck... I need some more gear!!! I will be able to post the info for this campground Monday - Reservation service is closed over the weekend.

Here are the directions again, provided by Patrick Seeber:
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>
Directions:
From Reno:
Take Hwy 395 or Virginia Street south out of Reno to Carson City. Stay on it even after you hit Carson City. You will see a McDonalds on your right near KMart, then one on the left... You will want to make a left turn on Hwy 50 soon, so don't snooze. Once you are on Hwy 50, stay on it... you will begin going up a hill - that is a clue to watch the right hand side. You should see a sign that says city dump or something that denotes a dump... take the next right hand turn. It's a paved road.. but not for long. You should see a sign on the right side talking about radio controlled flying area... shortly after you will see on the right side a sign for the range. Take the right turn... Now you are on dirt washboard road (last time I was out there it was) Follow this road for less than a mile and you should end up doing a couple of switchbacks down to the range.

Best time at the range is early morning. Very little wind, probably not too many people. Wind will kickup around 10:30 to 11:00 am. Oh, forgot - You do have a choice of ranges - the rifle range previously described or the pistol range which is max 50 yrds. Rifle range is set to hold targets at 50, 100, 150, and 200 yards (pretty sure - it's not marked so I am guessing)

On Hwy 50 there are numerous Arco/quick stop places for snacks and h2o. A Longs is also on the way with middle of the road pricing on ammo and targets (don't forget film and batteries).

This is an ad hoc gathering. I'm trying to organize the information about the gathering, not the gathering itself. ;) I'm sure you'll want plenty of drinking water, sun-screen, etc. Patrick says that the shooting positions are covered, so it shouldn't be too bad. Since it is fire season, bring a fire extinguisher, if you have one.

Blitzkrieg has volunteered to bring a BBQ. Sounds good to me! If you want to get into the nitty-gritty of who's going to bring the potato salad, I'd suggest sending e-mail to Blitzkrieg, so as to keep this thread open.

Well, I'd hoped. I just can't do it and still go antelope hunting, as this'd take the best part of a week out of my preparations, and a chunk out of my $.
Have fun, and post reports, y'hear!?!
Maybe the next one...

The Bill of Rights, and the Golden Rule are enough for civilized behavior. The rest is window dressing. Shoot carefully, swifter...

I *may* be able to make it. Depends on how much a new clutch for my truck will cost. :(

Update: No can do. Toyotas are great, but when they break, they break in horribly expensive ways.

Sigh.

I've booked my room at the fabulous Carson City Super 8.

I have evern intention of going, but religious obligations have forced me to back out.

But I have decided that instead of paintballing that weekend, I will take some newbies out, so they can experience the joy that my Ar-15s, 10/22, and 1911 (ok maybe not the 1911, as it will be 2 dainty women) have brought me. after the shooting, I will be attending a gun show.

------------------
It ain't mah fault. did I do dat?

Bummer, Coinneach. It looks like it will be a smaller gathering than we had first thought.

Hey, DC, are you going?

The number for the Super 8 is 775-883-7800. Note that the area code for Carson City changed recently from 702 to 775. I'm not sure of the total, with room tax and whatnot, but it's roughly $65 per night Friday and Saturday, $35 for Sunday.

The Parks and Rec Dept says the range will be ready for sure Wednesday. They need to do a final walk through with the contractor. Unfortunatly, I got this on voice mail... The gentleman who called assured me that the wait will be worth it! (wonder what that really means! (grin))

Sounds like I will HAVE to take another drive with my AR this week {sigh} Oh well, the stuff ya gotta do...

Another nice place to learn about Carson City and what to do when you aren't on the range...

Gosh, I love search engines... (when they work)

Gee, why is my Rt Index finger beginning to itch?

My employer insists I be at work saturday, but I'll be up there sunday morning. Fortunately for me it's not quite a 2 hour drive from home.

It seems a friend has a place for me to stay free in lake tahoe. How long of a drive is it going to be from lake tahoe to the range? Long enough that I should just get a hotel room or would staying in tahoe be fine?

Probably less than an hour depending on where at Tahoe. But Tahoe is very nice this time of year, plus you'll have the casinos for any night time entertainment.
