We don't want RUGER guns here!

Considering the business problems that the OP's mentioned, the truth may be that Charlie can't buy from Ruger any longer. The owner may not even realize that, depending on how much she actually knows about the business. Sometimes when small businesses are taken over by family, or others, who aren't familiar w/ their operations, they can be held hostage by the existing employees. That might explain why Charlie bolted the shop and drove away when the OP arrived that one time - that seems a little suspicious to me.

RTFM if you've got a relationship w/ the owners, and care enough to make the effort, you might call her and explain what's happened. She may have gotten an entirely different story from Charlie.

Targets with pictures of the president for sale? I'm out of there. Employees giving unsolicited screeds about FEMA camps to customers?

That used to be half the fun of going to a gun shop!:D I know it's not the 1980's anymore....but I liked the '80's. I miss the tax protesters too!

While it is no excuse for deceiving you I think some folks feel Bill Ruger sold out to the gun control crowd.

You mean old Bill made an executive decision to keep his foot in the door of the 7th largest economy in the world (California) so his workers would have a job, and his stock-holders would have a return on their investment?

:D

I have two different LGS's I frequent. One is about 40 miles away from my house, unfortunately, but in a rural area that is the norm. The other one I don't go into anymore due to misinformation and lack of selection. This is the main reason I shop online.

I have never heard of a mom and pop store that has 93 distributors. I don't even think there are that many firearms wholesalers in existence. you are dealing with a shady crook pure and simple. you do not fill out a single piece of paper or pay a single charge for a gun that has not been shipped to your store so he was clearing trying to take your money and run.

I will say though that his boss got thrown into a nasty situation. allegations like this could make her lose her FFL and face criminal charges but it is also tasteless to fire an employee or reprimand them infront of a customer no matter how rudely or down right indecent they may have been treated. she knew that you were in the right and tried to make it right without causing a scene in the middle of the store. charlie probably does not work there anymore, if he does, he is definitely on thin ice with his boss.

rule #1 for small business: the customer is always right
rule #2 you never accept cash until the product is guaranteed to ship
rule #3 if the customer has payed for services that were not rendered, they get a full refund AND gratuities to ensure they keep coming back.

Fraud, pure and simple.

The owner is lucky you didn't file a criminal complaint. I'm astonished that she sided with Charlie. She should have fired him on the spot.

Tell all your friends, and tell them to tell all their friends, to avoid this shop like the bubonic plague.

Yep. They took your money, lied to you for several weeks, then tried to run you off and keep part or all of the money you paid. You might be doing the community a service by speaking with law enforcement or prosecutors. There might be a pattern of such misbehavior with other customers of which you are not aware.

The OP got to vent, and it looks like the situation was resolved. This thread is running off the tracks, so we'll call it a night.
