We are the shortage!!!!

Well, there are also the folks who are going into retail outlets and buying all the ammo off the shelves and then re-selling to gouge people who are panicking at the shortage.

Good thing I hoarded .44 mag components back in the 1990s. I just got a .44 recently after not having one for some time. Lo and behold, I dusted off my stash if Large Pistol Magnum primers, patina covered cases, and remember those W296 cans with the small metal screw on lid? I loaded up a bunch of test batches today. Didn't have to go out looking for one single thing.

Last ammo drought in 2009 I was able to keep not only myself but four other family members supplied for range trips.

Hoarding means I am part of the solution not your problem.

It hasnt been getting any better here in central wisconsin but its not so bad you cant find anything except .22lr. The only .22lr i have seen in 2 months was yesterday, winchester match grade bricks for $139.99! Youve gotta be joking! But the same store i also bought the 4 box limit on 9mm fiocchi fmj $20/box. That was at a lgs. After that i went with a friend to gander mtn. He bought a beretta px4 9mm. They didnt have any 9mm luger rounds on the shelf but they had thousands of 9mm fmj in the back room. Only catch is you have to buy a gun. My friend bought 4 350ct boxes of blazer brass fmj and we split it. Why do they need so many for gun sales only when they barely had any guns to sell! I expected to find nothing yesterday but prevailed and came home with around 900 rounds of 9mm target. Best of luck to everyone else.

Need isn't the question that should be asked. The question is who's business is it how much ammo you can or should have. That would be your business and no one else's. What part of "infringed" don't people get.

Infringed comes from the 2nd Amend. It has nothing to do with behavioral characteristics that damage the ability of others to purchase ammo because you want to sit on a stash like a dragon from the Lord of the Rings.

Mine, Mine - my precious brick of 22. Precious!

If we are starting to impact competitions and training classes that support the RKBA - you are not helping the cause by hoarding and flipping. That is a moral decision.

It doesn't really bother me about the hoarding as it will sooner or later come back out on the market or a person will have so much they won't panic again.

What concerns me are those who shoot 10,000 rounds a week. That is ammo that is gone for good. Although you are free to shoot all the ammo you want, I would think you were a bit odd to know that ammo is hard to get yet not control your addiction.

It doesn't really take a lot of ammo to 'train" or enjoy shooting. A person needs to change the way they shoot right now to conserve ammo.

freedom is being free to do the right thing. :)

well said. the other implication of hoarding that has me wondering is whether or not it will cause gun sales to fall through the roof. you have a lot of people running out and buying whatever ammo stock is available, which means that if you're new to firearms/shooting sports then there's going to be absolutely no ammo for you to use with your shiny new gun, or ammo will be too expensive. you might as well use your gun as a door stop if ammo shortages continue

This is why many shops are rationing ammunition and refusing sales to folks who appear to be buying for the purpose of "flipping."

When I was shooting trap and skeet competitively, I would go through atleast a thousands shells a week.

And that's on the low side, only 200 shells a day, which was about the limit my sister would pull clays for.

Wow, does your chiropractor have a picture of you in the office with "Best Client of 2012" on it? How do you have any shoulder left?

Ironically I have more ammunition than ever at the current time, but 1) I am shooting competitions now; 2) I too have the "well I need a lot in case the next order never comes through for six months" issue.

I think this is happening now. The last two local competitions I went two were half what they were 6 months before. Concsidering the climate is ideal (this is Texas) right now it should be wall to wall with competitors. All you hear when you go is "how much ammo do you have left?" I've cut back practicing as well.

A call to the little brother of a former shotgun teammate confirmed that practice had been severly curtailed and that team preformance as a result necessarily suffered at the past competetion.

Eh, the distributors who the 4-H bought from sold out of everything to either the big box stores or gun shops. Even light field loads.

Guess people were going to use them on drones?

Our local match director is worried when the shortage hits his matches.

I shoot about 350 rounds a month. I hate to have to use a water pistol.

I was going to get a little more into 22 LR steel but I would run out in a couple of months.

I guess maybe I'm a horder.

I got caught last time and nearly ran out of primers. I said never again. After things calmed down I stalked up. Got enough where I can ride out the next (this present drought) and then some.

Right now I'm not hurting, nor am I having to cut down on my shooting.

EXCEPT:

22s werent a problem last time and I got caught with my pants down. I have just enough to shoot the upcoming matches I had planned on shooting, but no practice.

So I'll say it again. After this droubt I'll stock up on 22s,

I still buy primers and powder when I see them, not to stock up but to keep up.

Nothing wrong with being prepared. Nothing wrong with not wanting to cut back on your shooting.

Having said that, I don't see ammo, I don't sell componenets, but I do shoot a lot, and I don't plan on cutting back.

Actually heard Sean Hannity mention something about the Government buying up ammo today. If even a small part of this is true, it is very worrisome!

I have heard this more than once and from multiple places. I am sure they buy ammo for training etc, but it does leave one to wonder if they are buying more so we can't get any.

Here in Utah ammo seems to be getting worse, not better. A month ago I could still find a box of 9mm if I looked hard enough. Even could find 50 rounds of .22 if you were willing to look. Now it is nowhere to be found other than the secondary market.
