walther p99

I just bought a new p99 ;I have shot 250 rounds with it. Its been perfectly reliable. However; there is a concern. When I cycle the slide for a fresh round, the slide chambers the round just fine but sometimes it hangs just short of the end point. If I shake the gun or just touch the slide alittle it goes to the end. Any ideas would be appriciated.
P.S the gun was perfectly cleaned and oiled.

Since I don't know your shooting experience, I appologies in advance, but do you "ride the slide"? This means are you keeping ahold of the slide as it goes forward, or are you letting the spring do its job and pull the slide forward by itself.

P99

Well, since the gun is still breaking in, I wouldn't be too concerned just yet. Have you field stripped it, to see if there's any sort of gunk, grime, foam from the case... whatever... preventing the slide from seating?

It does sound like you're riding the slide, but it could also be caused by reloads that are improperly resized or a tight chamber.

Mine also did that, but it has since cleared up. Probly just tight, just make sure to keep it cleaned and moderatly oiled. I have about 350 rounds through mine so far. Just be extra carefull not to ride the slide into battery. Pull it back till it stops and let go. SOmething about the shape/size of the slide makes you have a tendancy to ride it down. I had to keep reminding myself not to.

A Walther P99 9mm is the only gun on my "to get" list.

What did you get?
9mm or .40
What finish?

How do you like it so far?

More to be added to "to get" list later.;)

one more

Its in 9mm and I absolutly love it. When I finish up a few other projects and get 1 or 2 more guns off of my gotta have list I'm going to get another one.

NB, I'm also new to the sport, and to the P99 also, but where I'm concerned, this gun should be on EVERYONE'S 'to get' list. There's nothing not to like.

I have 1800 rounds through mine in the three months I have it, so it's not just blind enthusiasm for a new gun anymore. This thing is great.

If you're in the NJ area, you're welcome to stop by and shoot mine anytime.

NB,

You need to get one. I like this gun so much, that I've got 6 of them now. I've got all the different colors and will have to say that the military version is my favorite. All of mine are in .40 however.

P99

YO ! ... i got mine in .40 sw ... LOVE IT !!!
TO MIRON .. DUDE .. i bet i know what your doin .. like they said .. dot ride the slide down with your hand just pull back and let go .. your slide and goin all the way down BECAUSE ...
the slide doesnt have enough force to flick the ejector over the lip of the rim of the cartridge ... causing the tip of hte ejector to just tap the back of the rim of the cartridge, instead of, smacking it, and flipping over the lip and locking down on it ... GOOD LUCK ...
shoot smart and often

Paochow,
Are those evil hi-cap mags I see in that picture?????
Aren't you aware of the fact that evil hi-cap mags will cause your pistol to spring to life on it's own, levitate off the table, seek out the nearest child, and kill it???? You must get rid of them!! Do it for the children!!! Do it NOW!!! :D :D :D

Oh, I forgot to mention. If left unto themselves, the evil hi-caps, indeed any evil mag, will self load. That's why you have to keep your ammunition locked up seperate from the gun!!! ;)

Well, that's what Hillary and Chucky said!!!! :barf:

Nice pistol. I only have two of the evil mags!!!;):D

Mine's a 9mm military. I have two evil magazines and so far my gun hasn't jumped to life and started shooting. Should I return them as defective? ;)

Here are my two, one is a 9mm QPQ and the other is a 40Cal. 007 james bond edition, only 10 in the world in this Cal.!!! I did however sell it, but the QPQ remains.

OK, you guys stop rubbin' it in. Where can I get some evil hi-caps? I have been looking on places like gunbroker but there haven't been any on there.

I know Earl's is supposed to have them but $125 -130 bucks. Do I have to just "bite the bullet" so to speak or are there other sources I don't know about.
