Walther P99-the best?

Jim, hey we can agree to disagree.

According to Mr. Hindle, Earl's gets his P99's from them.

You know, I have a hard time believing this. Earl told me he imports them directly from Germany. Maybe something's changed from the last time I dealt with him.

From WaltherP99Man:
That was Friday and I haven't heard back yet. When I do hear from Earl I will post details.

He's probably in Germany, where he goes twice a year from what I understand. :D

Regards,
James

Jim, hey we can agree to disagree.

EXACTLY, and we can enjoy ourselves while doing it. :D

Just think of the folks that don't have the knowledge that we about the topic. ;)

I was told that Earls gets only the P99's from walther-USA. The P88's and P5's he gets direct from Germany.

I just got an email reply from Earl. Here's the scoop.

Dear Sir,
Prototype "P99" guns (originally they were supposed to be called
"HLP"-Hammer Less Pistol) were made in 1994. I have a couple of these guns in stock (not for sale). The mags were naturally also made for the weapon(16 shot). I was the only Company to receive an import permit from Washington to import such mag.

When there gone, there gone, as no further importation is allowed. The P88 (15 shot) mag is not recommended for the P99
because of liability reasons. It is only to be used in the P88.

In fairness to Walther USA, they have only been in business for 2 years. There is however NO Legal P99 40S&W mags (12 shot), only LE, as this caliber was introduced in 1999. This is not even close to 9/13/1994.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely, Earl

Now I know why so many of you say Earl's the man. The only other place I have heard the "HLP" mentioned is in the Walther book. ATF importation permit on file - sounds legal to me. Can't wait until payday.:D Thanks to all who suggested I keep digging.

Double Tap.......
Earl's the man!

Earl is da Man!!!!

He is a little higher priced, but I will only deal with him.

He personally took care of a problem that I was having. I ahd originally tried to go through WaltherUSA to get a special P99 made for me, but after being lied to and being treated badly badly by WaltherUSA (and yes this includes Kurt) Earl sought me out and got me what I wanted.

As stated, Earl is the man!!

ALL except one of my Walters including 2 P99's were bought in person from Earl. My Hi-Caps as well for my 9mm P99.

Trust what he has to say. He is 100% walther, he deals with the factory direct. And while S&W is listed for a warranty center. HE (Earl) does the work.

His place is a Walther museum. He has some one of a kind stuff and did the German to English translation of the factory authorized Walther book.

VERY interesting thread....I've been lusting after a P99 for a few months now. So...which should I buy...the 9mmP or the .40cal S&W? I shoot IPSC/USPSA regularly with my Glock 35, but would not be using a P99 for anything other than recreational target shooting. Unless I get interested in IDPA, I suppose....in that case, I ask my question again. 9mmP or .40cal? I've already decided on the military green.

Sounds interesting as well as encouraging. :D

Mike,

I ask my question again. 9mmP or .40cal? I've already decided on the military green.

I have two military models, a 9mmx19 and a .40. The only way you will know is to buy both! ;)

I expect to pickup another, possibly tomorrow, all black but I don't know which caliber either.

Mike Davies, get the 9MM. For general target shooting 9MM is way cheaper. You can boxes of 100 Winchester at WalMart for $10.99.

If you do decide to try IDPA you would be shooting in SSP against Berettas, Glocks, and the like. I believe, correct me if I'm wrong here fellas, that IDPA just moved .40 cal to CDP division which means you would be shooting against guys with custom 1911s and SA triggers if you went with the .40.

WaltherP99Man,

Where did you hear that? I've been shooting IDPA with my .40 P99's for three years now. I can't see any reason why they would do that.

I was reading a thread on one of the other boards maybe pistolsmith.com where .40 cal was being moved to CDP. It may have been a rule change in the ESP division now that I think of it. Basically, taking the .40 cal Hi-Power and 1911s and putting them all in the same class.

I'm not sure if it applied to all .40 cals. most of the SSPs in my area shoot Glock, Beretta, or SIG in 9MM. That's why I asked for clarification from anyone who was using the .40s.

I went to the IDPA web site and found nothing that mentioned the .40's switching classification. However, there was one line that said that all SSP can shoot in CDP if they so desire.

I haven't shot many other guns(p38,p7,hkp9s) but I have to say that I really like my 9mm p99. Especially like the adjustable grips and sights. Adept I can't agree more about the dual p99 shooting. Hopefully I'll be able to buy another soon and a .45 if they do make one.
