wally world ammo

I went by the local Wal-Mart after work today to get some 9mm for a range trip tomorrow. They had everything, no empty slots at all in their ammo case. They even had 45ACP which I have not seen in months.

The RWS shoots great in my P30, but the WWB in the 100-round boxes is still a bit cheaper if they have them.

Stargazer65 - Locally around here the only 38 Special WW 130gr FMJ ammo in 100 round packs is readily available. No other loading or manufactors, Strange but the only 357 Mag available is WW 110gr softpoint in 50 round packs.

The manufacturers are catching up with the huge 'get it now before Obama' buying frenzy. Wal-Mart buys in such huge volumes they can dictate lower prices. I like to support all local businesses. But, first and foremost, I support my pocketbook.

Support your local shops.

Don't support the giant that is killing everything good in this country.

True and that is the beauty of living here in America, the right to choose where one spends their money and the OP chooses Wally World.
If money is of no object of in over abundance then yes shop local and pay more. In todays tight budget for most people one shop to get the most for their money, hence Wally World.

Our Walmart here in Vermont has had a good selection also. 45ACP can still be spotty, and I have even seen a few boxes of 380 from time-to-time. Even my favorite gun shop is a bit higher than Walmart, but I do buy defense ammo from him, and any reloading supplies. I did notice my local shop had a TON of 380, and Primers yesterday, which was encouraging. In Fact, I can't remember the last time I saw so many primers sitting on the shelves, and he had every type. Hope the prices on those come back down a bit.

Support your local shops...

...Which is a very noble sentiment, except that, in my small town, the local shop is sending various agents to Walmart to buy up all stock for his own shop, then marking it up 3x.

So, I guess, in a sense, you could say he's killing himself.

Greed: The American Way.

online purchase

Frankenmauser-I hear what yu're saying,but around here it's a $9 differential per box for 45 ACP WW vs.LGS.
I do buy a lot of commercial reloads and other ammo at LGS.
I buy most of my ammo online fom Ammoman and Graf&Sons-the don't charge for shipping. However,it's hard to get 45 ACP from them.I buy a lot of Super 38from those dealers however.
I spend a lot more with independent suppliers than WW.
I buy ALL my targets and other supplies at LGS.
Georgia Arms is great for quality ammo, but their shipping to my address is considerable.Outstanding customer service if there's ever a problem.Never got a single bad round from them.More than I can say for Federal.

The problem is that Wally World sells their ammo at the same prices that local gun shops pay for it, sometimes even less. They are not trying to rip any one off, they just don't have the buying power.

A few months back the WalMart in San Angelo put out a truckload of RWS 9mm priced at more than $20 for box of 50.

I waited and watched. Slowly the price came down.
I know it's good ammo... The other day I picked up a few boxes for $12. :D

The biggest problem with wally's folly and ammo is that no local gun store can browbeat the volume discounts out of suppliers that wally can, and they are left supplying the profits that are necessary to support the walmart discounts.

When walmart has train car loads of 9mm pulling into the distribution center, then tossing them onto their own trucks, can the poor SOB who has to buy ammo by the single case from someone who has to make up for being screwed by walmart still make a profit after paying $40 just to ship that single case of ammo?

You can't compete with walmart. You might as well slash your own throat. I worked in retail for many, many years. I'd never try to go into retail as an owner of a small shop that carried anything that walmart did. People hate you because you won't discount to walmart price levels, and don't care that you can supply a thousand things that you won't find there.

You'd be surprised at how nasty people will get over a 10% difference in the price of a quart of oil.

Wally world in kansas city area is the same too...Lots of ammo..good prices too. Just bought 300 9mm rounds for the range..

As far as the local gun shop support goes...Their prices of ammo are twice the amount what wal-mart charges...for the same brands.. I'll buy my guns at LGS and shoot them there at the range...But buying ammo at the local gun shop, is what I like to call..."stupid"..

Walmarts here have a very good selection now compared to a few months ago.

I would like to support my local shops, but I can't afford their ammo. :(

All they have at my local walmarts are random rifle rounds and empty shelves with labels for the stuff that people actually shoot.

Wally World has been getting more ammo, but Cabela's has really surprised me. Handgun ammo of all calibers including several brands of 380 Rifle ammo likewise. They literally have pallets of 223,and 9mm in the aisles as you walk from the front door to the gun counter. Don't know if they are all like that, but the one in my area is.:D
The Bass Pro in this area is pretty much a BIG dud for ammo.:barf:

i just ran by the walmart on Bpt Ave in Shelton, CT. They had a good amount of ammo. Everything but .380.

they had .38, didnt notice pricing or anything, couple different brands though.

Oddly enough, I snatched up 400 rounds of WWB 45 Auto 230 gr fmj earlier... @ $33 per 100! Talk about a deal!

Walmart, Palm Ave., San Diego, CA.

*I think I left them with a 100 rd pack of Remington fmj's. LOL

the walmart in peachtree city, ga had Federal 9mm last wk @ $9.50 per 50, WWB @ $13.50 and Remington .45 @ $20 per 50. a few days later they had WWB .45 for $32 per 100. Now to me, THAT's a good deal.

I would love to support my local shop, but they never have the WWB 100 round value packs that I use for target practice. And even if they did, they could not compete on price. Being a broke college student, I have to be frugal.
