Here in RI Walmart has been getting in a lot more handgun ammo.particularly 9mm,and they've added a line, RWS 124 gr at $12.70/50 rds.
I stopped at two stores and bought 600 rds of WWB 45 ACP at $16.50/50 rds plus tax.You have to buy the 100 rd box,but who wouldn't?:D
I haven't even seen Wolf going for that price on the net.Forget gun stores.
I also noticed adequate supplies of 40 S&W at both stores and even some 44 Mag at one of the stores.
Looks like 9mm is in really good supply.:)

I support my local gun shops! I just dont buy my range ammo there. The prices are better at wally world. I can get 400 rounds of Winchester for 132.00 plus tax. I buy my defensive ammo at the shops. You wont find that deal at the local shops or online for that matter.

Here in my corner of western NC the WalMarts are looking better with full shelves of Rifle and shot gun ammo as well as Winchester handgun rounds but the Remington handgun ammo is still a bit thin with just a couple boxes of 9mm there about every third trip. I have only seen 380 once or twice in the past 6 months. I buy at both WalMart and the local shops.

The shelves in nh have been overflowing for a few months....the last time I went by the one in Manchester, they had so much 40 there was no room in the case for it....must have been 1oo boxes of it, along with everything else....just yesterday I picked up some 40 at the local WM, and they had everything from 38 special, 38 +p, 357, 45, tons of 9mm, 3 different kinds of 40, including hollowpoints, I have actually stopped worrying about finding amo for now....I get my range and outdoors shooting amo at WM, and my self defense stuff at the gun shops like someone else said...sorry but Im not paying 2-3 times as much for the same thing, not when I go through 3-500 rounds per week...

No 45s 380s or 38s in NW Vegas.

Too bad I stocked up on 9mm. I stocked up on 9mm's a year before the "Ammo rush started. I should have stocked up on .38spl's as that's my main carry gun.

In the Valley here, just about everything is in good supply at Walmart EXCEPT .45 ACP.

BTW, recently I bought two boxes of the RWS 9mm. From the first box, I had about 6-7 that didn't fire until I dropped the hammer on them a second time. All from the second box fired without problems. Perhaps RWS uses harder primers? Don't know if anyone else has experienced this or not. Oh, I've also used a few boxes of the low-cost Federal 9mm ammo. All fired without problems.

I support my local gun shop by bringing all my students to his range and buying targets, gun supplies, and even the occasional gun. However, when it comes to range ammo, he is way too expensive...almost $7 per box more than Wally World. I shoot at least 250 rounds each range trip and that is over a $30 savings to me when you factor in the sales tax difference. I shoot at least twice a week which amounts to a considerable savings.

I have talked to him about lower ammo prices and his response was that he would gladly give me a 10% discount if I buy all my ammo and ammo for my students, by the case in advance. Even with the 10% discount, it is still more expensive than Wally World ammo. I don't deny any business the right to make a profit but feel he should make it when he charges to use the range, in his mark up for guns and supplies, but not be outrageously expensive when it comes to ammo.

I would think that selling ammo at lower prices would draw business instead of chasing it away to the likes of Wally World. The world of retailing calls that a Loss Leader, not that he would have to take a loss, just a lower profit margin on one particular item.

I try to buy my practice ammo at Walmart because it is usually a good bit cheaper. I'd say under $10 a box of 50 9mm FMJ. However, the past few times the cheapest they've had (if any) has been for over $12. For about a dollar
more I can buy it from my regular shop. So, I will just buy locally if I can't save more than a dollar a box.

I remember a few years ago, Bass Pro ran a sale for 50rd 9mm UMC for $8.88 and had a limit of 10 boxes. I bought my 10 and had somebody else buy 10 more for me. Once I used that up, I went back to Walmart for Blazer Brass at $8.96 a box. Then around last Christmas, I had to switch to Federal for just under $10 a box from Walmart.

The shelves aren't as empty but it sure does cost more.

About 2 years ago when I first heard that the ammo prices are going to sky rocket I stocked up on it. I went to about 25 walmarts around Houston buying all the 9mm and 45 I could, back then they would let you buy them out if you wanted and that's what I did. I picked up just under 3000 rounds of blazer brass 9mm at 5.47 for 50 rounds and just over 5000 rounds of 45acp blazer brass at 9.47 a box of 50. I put most of it on my gander mountain master card which had a year of no intrest left on it. By the time I paid it off about 10 months later ammo had already jumped about 30-40%. I'm still shooting on that supply two years later and I have about half of what I started with.

I know that several people have mention it, but I have never seen primers for sale at Wal-Mart. Maybe it's a Texas thing.

supporting local gun shops

i'm all for supporting LGSs...up to the point that it gets stupid. like a previous poster mentioned (45Gunner?), the prices for practice ammo are like $7 more per box compared to walmart.

i will buy my guns from the LGS. i will take classes, and encourage others to do the same at the LGS. i buy most of my JHPs from the LGS (is i am too impatient to wait on internet). but i will NOT throw away money just to support "the cause"

i liken this same attitude to folks who say "buy american cars". well, once the american automakers stop making junk, and jacking up the prices due to union bullying, then maybe i will consider an american automobile.

my apologies for hijacking the thread...

back onto topic, every once in awhile i can find the "UMC Bundles" that have 250 rounds/box when i'm at walmart. pretty good stuff for the range!

Have you guys seen much .38 special at walmart? It seems to be lacking at the walmarts around here, even though the other popular calibers are well stocked. I went yesterday to 2 stores but they only had the expensive +P JHPs, no cheap target ammo in .38 special.

last time i checked at my wally worlds .45 and almost all revolver cartridges were non existent. just 9mm, .40, .22lr and rifle and shotgun rounds
