Wal-Mart to start selling handguns in 2012

The Brady Campaign says "Thank You!"....

Aguila Blanca ....Wal-Mart has put thousands (if not tens or hundreds of thousands) of small, mom-and-pop type stores out of business.
As did Safeway, Kroger, Tom Thumb, Sears, Target and any other retailer....its called capitalism.

Any gun store put out of business by Wal Mart wasn't much of a gun store to begin with.

Remember when JC Penney, Sears, Montgomery Ward, Target and Dillards sold guns? I do. Every hardware store did as well. I celebrate the availability of guns at WalMart.

Now some of you want one more retailer to stop selling guns. The Brady Campaign says "Thank You!".

Stop gun sales at Wally World, then what's next Bass Pro, Cabala's, Gander Mountain. I've never bought a gun at Wally World, but I don't want the option to be eliminated.

Like I said even if Wally world did sell guns I probably would not buy them there. But with that said I do agree with this .

There is no gun store in Comanche county, OK. We do have a bunch of pawnshops with FFLs but their prices are terrible. Duncan, OK has the closest gun store: The guys prices are very high and i won't buy anything from him. When i want a new gun there's a good chance it will come from Wal-Mart.

It's amusing to me how so many find WalMart to be this evil entity destroying small town business.

The truth is WalMart was a small "mom and pop" business. It was successful. The owner wanted to expand. He was good at it, some luck too. He worked hard and made the right choices. Choices available to every small business with the desire and drive to take the chances and make the choices.

I'm curious... Do you guys boycott Papa Johns too? The giant, evil pizza chain with a supply network that local "mom and pop" pizza shops can't match? He started out small too but he's big now. He must be just as evil as Walmart!

I say amusing. It's not really amusing. It's sad that success is so hated by those who don't have it. The success of others used to be motivational. Now all it motivates is new and creative ways to take it away.

At this time,no walmart in the lower 48 does/can or will sell handguns.I'm in management at walmart and so far the best upgrade that i've seen is the introduction of the AR style rifles within the last 4 months.

Again there will be no handguns sold in the lower 48,only rifles and shotguns.Sorry for disappointment

While looking for a TV at Walmart I came across many allegations that electronics sold through them aren't exactly what they seem. These reports are not only from the internet, but from vendors and AV professionals whom I trust who purchase consumer and professional high end equipment. They all say the same thing: "Purchase from Walmart and you're taking a chance."

I can just see it now, a Walmart run of revolvers which replaces the extractor rod with a stick. Rifle sights attached with superglue. And semi-auto pistols manufactured with a half safety. What's that you ask? It's a safety that only works 50% of the time. That'll save a few bucks.

I know one food vendor who confirmed that for me. Does it affect the guns they get? I don't know.

However, some of us are old enough to remember the "K-Mart Special" Remington rifles (the 7400 still gives gunsmiths headaches). That could happen with Wal-Mart.

WalMart gets their guns from the same distributors I do. If you need proof just look at the catalog they keep under the counter.

we have several LGS in this area ..all of them beats or matches Wal-mart prices...ecer once in a while I'm forced to pick up ammo at Wally World ..but most Ammo I get is from LGS or at the Flea Market from buddies

..all of them beats or matches Wal-mart prices

It's a different world where i live at.Nothing out sells or even comes close to walmarts prices.I coined the saying(local extortion market)for a reason.

Around here if i don't buy from walmart,i buy online and if i don't buy online then i buy from friends.

Used glocks 500 up
range ammo 25.97 and up
used AR's 899.00 and up

Online used glocks 325.00 new rtf glocks 465.00
walmart range ammo.12-16 a box
new Bushmaster 897.00
New Sig AR 897.00
Online at palmetto state 620 and up built.

There isn't a local extortionist that will even touch any of those prices.

Are walmart has carried longguns , are fleetfarm carries longguns, and now carries handguns and blackguns as well, both comparably priced with are lgs.

Why is that?

How far ahead would you expect to hear rumblings if it was coming down the pipe?

Walmart doesn't just test fire things, they love to take their time.

Trust me it would be a major change in the store set up and security proceedures that we as managers would know well before anyone else.Home office would notify all stores that could handle changes and then go from there.

Logisticly it would be a nightmare for at least 2/3's of all the walmarts. So with all the changes i would say about a year or better after we all got the memo.

I just don't see it happening

It would be a big deal to home office. They would litterall have to change the set up in a number of test stores. Then they would have to redue security proceedures for those same test stores. If it worked then they would have to revamp every available store who qualified for the new program.

It would be a nightmare all the way down to training the staff, and i don't think walmart is going back to that again.I know i don't want to stand around showing staff the in's and outs of proper handgun care and handling proceedures when most don't even want to work in the first place.

The liability would be to great and walmart doesn't want that.I'll say it again,it wouldn't fly except in Alaska.

I have worked in 5 walmats and most us manages would agree that we don't want it nor is it a good idea.

I have bought a couple guns at Walmart and they are convenient. However the help was challenged at best. Can't find the keys , can't find the paperwork , can't find the box for the gun etc. I was not impressed.

walmart handguns

I worked as a manager for walmart 6 years ago in washington and at that time they were phasing firearms out of all but a few select stores. They did sell handguns in some of the Alaskan stores (Anchorage, Fairbanks, etc...) due to the vast expanse of that state. Due to their phasing out fireams, (politics) I phased myself out of the company.

Wally and Fred have always sold handguns in Alaska. It's never been an issue up here.

Never bought any at either place as their prices aren't much better than the mom and pop stores and they usually only have limited stock.

My local wallmart has all ways sold long guns and ammo. I hate shopping there (would rather support my local FFLs) but it does give me some thing to look at while the wife goes shopping.
