Wal-Mart to start selling handguns in 2012

Reading this thread brought something to mind. If you buy a gun at Wallymart and it needs to go back to the factory, who do you take it to? Something tells me that the corporate overlords there don't want people bringing them into the store.

Assuming that's correct, what happens when all of the smaller gun shops close because they couldn't compete?

I'm a bit leery of Wally World selling guns after my experiences with the employees they hire. I do buy ammo from them-it's $8-$10 dollars a box cheaper if you don't mind having to deal with the people they hire.

I'm going to take one more crack at this before giving up on this thread.

It's not like going to a gunstore. You don't go there to become educated- you do that beforehand.

If WM has a gun I want, at a better price than I can find elsewhere, it would go something like this:

I walk up to the counter and say "I'll take that one."

Not, "What do you know about that one?" Not, "What do you think of that one?" Not, "What's your experience shooting that one?"

All they need to do is go through the process of doing the check, ringing me up, and that's it. Nothing more.

Same thing you would do if you bought it at a gunstore....you send it directly back to the factory. Its not just "corporate overlords"...many gunshops tell you specifically to contact the manufacturer if you have a problem.

Any gun store that can't stay in business because of Walmart wasn't much of a gun store to begin with.;)
Walmart doesn't carry handguns.
Walmart doesn't special order handguns
Walmart doesn't carry anything but the most popular calibers
Walmart doesn't carry ANY quality holsters or gun belts
Walmart doesn't carry every rifle or shotgun made by manufacturer.
Walmart doesn't offer gunsmithing, sighting in, or expert advice from a former SEAL either.

Walmart DOES have very good prices on a very limited number of items. You won't find a full line of Remingtons, Ruger, Winchesters or Savage firearms....but you will see Wally carry the most popular rifles or shotguns in a limited choice of calibers/gauges at a good discount.

Skans I don't like Walmart's long gun selection and I'm sure I won't like their handguns if they ever sell them.
Taurus
Charter Arms
Hi Point

***of course these won't be the same quality as the Taurus, Charters and Hi Points you buy in a gun store...these will be lesser quality since WalMart only gets seconds.;)

Yuck, a Sig

I didn't like the Sig rifle I saw in my local Walmart either! There are many that can be ordered that you won't see on the rack. Just sayin' not advocatin'.
