Wal - Mart, "Is that for a handgun?"

Once when I was in Wal-Mart, the guy behind the counter jokingly told the guy in front of me that if he wasn't exactly 21 years old, he couldn't sell him any ammo. The question that is printed out on the register's screen is "Is the customer 21? (Y/N)". The guy in front of me answered 35, or something over 21, I don't exactly remember. The clerk almost didn't sell him any ammo. ;)

i stop off at a pawn shop on my way home 2 or 3 times a week. and pick up a few box's of handgun ammunition. the last time a new guy rang me up and it came to $48 dollars and some change. he told me that he was glad that it was below $50 dollars because he did not like filling out all the paper work that go's with a purchase of $50 dollars or more in handgun ammunition...

Don't ya just love new guys? They'll believe anything.

Calling all ammo averse Wal-Mart employees

The old liberal retiree Wal-Mart sporting goods employee who works at my local store, originally from New York, always asks lots of those silly inane questions. When I ask him if he has a particular type of ammo, he states that he doesn't know anything about ammo and that he doesn't like to give people ammo, anyway. Those questions basically make the Wal-Mart lawyers happy.:)

I checked at a gun store yesterday to see if they happend to have any .380. The fellow said "No practice ammo but we've got the man stopper stuff. :D I asked how much and he said it was $40 for 20 rounds. With taxes and that would almost be $50 for one box. :barf: To make matter worse they had a big sign out front saying that they had P3AT's in stock. How you gonna sell a gun that you can't get ammo for. I guess I'm going to have to carry my NAA mini 22 WMR for a while longer. :)

Don't forget that a lot of carbines shoot handgun ammo; like Hi-Point or KelTec (9mm & 40S&W) If you really want you could always just say rifle anyway....

Well in California they no longer sell firearms at all at wallyworld because of a few "dumb" clerks not following the "dumb" laws. :barf:

It would be horrible if they stopped selling ammo because of the same reason.

I was checked recently for ID to make sure I was 21. I laughed, handed over my drivers license and said "I've turned 21 twice now and I'm working on number 3"

The young lady just glared at my license, glared at me and proceeded with the sale.

I've never been asked these questions here in Florida but if they ever do I'm going to say it's for my zipgun. If you don't know what a zipgun is ask a grownup.:D

I went to a walmart yesterday and asked if they had any 20ga #3 buck or bigger. She tried really hard but the first thing she handed me was 12ga buck and the second was 20ga slugs, asking "Is this it?" each time. I smiled, said don't worry about it, and bought the targets and hunting knife I had already picked up.

Not firearm related, but about a cashier not knowing her store's products

I went to an ACE hardware store to get a wood file (to fit some Hogue wood grips that required some filing, depending on year of the pistol model - hey, wait, this IS firearm related...)

I asked the cute young cashier where the wood files were.

She gave me a pretty but confused look and said, "I don't think we have any wood files. There are some metal ones over there on the wall, though."

I still chuckle over that one.

Thank God you didn't ask for a mill bastard!

I always answer no just to mess with em and see what they do

its really funny when you ask them for the 9mm handgun ammo and then they ask is it for a handgun and you say no

In MA you need to show your permit to buy any type of ammo at walmart. I am 20 so only have an FID card and have to show that to buy rifle ammo at walmart. I was challenged once when buying .22LR but explained to the guy that it was for a rifle and he reset the sale and allowed me to purchase it without a problem.

I've posted this before, but relates to store employees.

I was looking for an 870 for general bird hunting and was not sure how long of a barrel I wanted. The clerk brought out 3 identical except lenght shotguns still in their boxes. I asked if I could assemble them so I could see what felt better.

Her comment - "sure, just make sure you disassemble them, becasue I don't know how - and I can't put them away if they are not back in the box". Doing the paperwork, she did not know the difference between a semi and a pump...

I just kept grinning and got through it.

Wal-mart is a huge corporation so their risk and liabilities is through the roof. They will implement anything possible to reduce their annual liability cost. I wouldn't expect much from wal-mart nor would I ever buy ammo there.

There are no "liabilities" for using reloads in a s.d. or any other situation. That's b.s. inferred from the magical thinking of Masaad Ayoob.
Oh my goodness, are the undies bunched up just a wee bit?

I went to walmart and got .38 shells... I just said they were for a marlin .357 rifle... im under 21... but I do get a lot of shotgun shells there and they remember me... but its still sad that they would work there and not know that it says "Long Rifle" ofcourse that doesnt mean anything... its still stupid...

And thus ends this months edition of Wal-Mart madness/experiences.

Next month - same time, same place. See you then. :)
