VP9 and P30 - Price difference

Yup, was in the specials my apologies. Wow that is a good deal. :D

That said I will stand by what I said and say if take average prices the M&P + trigger kit + trigger + gunsmith (or your own time and labor, removing the rear sight can be a chore) is still more money. Now you've proven that there are exceptions to that rule and I can't deny that, but again I'm speaking in terms of averages. I also prefer to buy local but that's just me. Also again, I also prefer the M&P. But I think it's still worth mentioning the added cost/time involved with getting an M&P set up with APEX as opposed to just taking the gun out of the box and going right to work.

I agree with you there. No argument. I think it's fair to say an M&P with he parts and the VP9 are going to run about equal in costs. For some, spreadkign those costs out is easier than one bulk payment - i.e. buying the gun, then buying the parts later.

I just think it's important to note that by far the most common complaint about he M&P is it's trigger and with a relatively easy parts swap, it becomes (in my opinion, of course) the best trigger available on any striker gun on the market.

If the M&P came form the factory with the full Apex trigger kit and sold for $150 more... I suspect they wouldn't be able to keep them in stock. Too many people that aren't really as involved in the gun world as we are simply don't know that it's an option.

I prefer the VP9 to the M&P by way of grip. I don't like to add Talon grips or any other taped on grips to pistols. I like the pistol to fit me just right when it's stock. The VP9 is the first striker fired pistol that's done that for me. I don't need to buy an accessory to keep it locked into my hand, and it's grip feels better to me than the M&P does any day of the week also. The M&P, and the PPQ as well for that matter, get very slippery in my hands in a short time because my hands get sweaty rather quickly when shooting. The VP9 stays locked into my grip much better.

In fact, the only thing I prefer about the M&P is it's capacity. Same with a Glock 17 over the PPQ. But I'm willing to take the VP9 for it's other features over the competition.

That said, it's not like I'm a pistol monogamist. I'll still shoot other guns. I really think that the VP9 took the things that other manufacturers have done well over the year and managed to refine them just a notch more. There is no perfect pistol, but the VP9 gets as close to perfect for MY taste as a pistol has ever gotten. It ranks right there with the P30, the SIG line, and any other great striker fired gun in my opinion.

Remember when I convinced you to get the P30? :)

I don't disagree that the grip of the P30/VP9 are a little more ergonomic than the M&P. I still love my P30 and I will probably pick up a VP9 at some point, too. I just think that for me, the complete package of the M&P works best for me. The P30 is definitely a very close contender though. It just comes down to which one I'm more accurate with and in my case, it's the M&P. I love everything about shooting them both, but the pattern on the paper tells me that the M&P is the better option for me.

I do regret letting my P30L go. It was probably the most accurate I've been with any HK, to include my USP 45 Tactical.

Of course I do. It's a great pistol overall, slightly better grip than the VP9 in hand (a little rough on the skin IWB) in my opinion but the trigger was always the weak point of the pistol for me. The VP9 makes up for that in my eyes. It's a better concealed carry in my opinion.

Next on my list now will be an HK USP, another SIG P226, or on of those new Sphinx SDP Alphas. I just can't make up my mind...

The Sphinx's look interesting but I have no experience with them.

If you don't already have a 226, I would tell you to go that route. Make sure to add the SRT(if the one you get doesn't come with it) and the Gray Guns P-SPIT trigger. It really sets the 226 over the top. I have - and really, really like - the MK25. It is my favorite gun overall. Get a bunch of the MecGar 18rd flush fit mags to go with it. The 18 and 20rd MecGars is all I run in my 226. The OEM mags sit in a box in the closet unless I'm going out to burn through a ton of ammo, then I'll take them to the range so reloads are less frequent.

The only initial complaint with the MK25 was holster compatibility because of the 1913 rail vs the standard Sig rail. No worries though, I had a beautiful kydex pancake holster made for it and picked up the the Comp-Tac Infidel (which I use most often).

The USP is also a very nice gun though - especially if you go with the Match or Match-LEM hybrid trigger systems.

I didn't think the match kit made that much of a difference until I took out my current kit while waiting for replacement parts. Noticeable difference in my shooting results.

One day I will get my training P2000 out to Gray Guns. I want to see how good you can get a P series trigger. I would die a happy man if HK released a match trigger for those pistols.

Very much so. I've really thought about sending my P30 in to see what they can do to it. I wish I knew someone local with a GGI P30 so I could feel it. I suspect I would send it off tomorrow if knew how good it would be. :)

Malice,

You may recall thinking back that I actually carried a P226 daily before the P30. It was an older non-rail model. I ended up parting with it thinking that I would eventually replace it, haven't gotten around to it yet. I want to check out a Sphinx SDP first before making a final decision on it. The P226 is one of my favorites of all time as well.

As to the SRT, great SA trigger. The only thing I don't particularly care for on it is that it seems to greatly increase the pull weight of the DA pull, but I would likely install it regardless. I was looking at the MK25 to begin with, also, due to all that it comes with for the price point. I am more torn between the MK25 and the Sphinx than the other HK. I had a CZ P-01 in the past and loved it overall and that's really what has me drawn to the Sphinx and why I'd love to find a local shop that carries them so that I can fondle one.

Since you're also in Phoenix, please let me know if you run across one! :)
